"An amazing Mt Kilauea volcano tour on the island of Hawaii"

We departed Honolulu early in the morning to get to Hilo for a helicopter trip over Mount Kilauea. Unfortunately it was raining and the helicopter flight was cancelled. It wasn't looking like it was going to be the day I dreamed about for years. Our tour guide Mel told me not to worry. He'd make sure I'd see the Volcano. We spent the morning taking in the sights around Hilo, such as the Black Sand beaches, Waterfalls and a beautiful Japanese themed garden built by the last Hawaiian Queen. We had lunch at the Imiloa Astronomy Centre. The food was great and not expensive. After this it was time for the main event. We began the drive up the slopes of Kilauea. When we arrived at the Kilauea visitor centre Mel gave us a rundown on how the Island of Hawaii was created by five volcanoes. After the speech he told us to go down a path and head through Volcano House to view the Volcano itself. When we did the Volcano Caldera was totally obscured by fog and rain. I was so disappointed I wanted to cry but then as Mel put it "the magic happened". The clouds disappeared and there was the Kilauea Caldera in all it's glory. It was utterly magnificent. We were so caught up in it that Mel came and gave us a gentle nudge to come back to the bus as we were going up to the crater. The view from the Jaggar Museum on the rim of the crater was spectacular. You have to see it to understand. I won't go on about it. Just go there. We had made good time so Mel took us down to the Ocean slopes of Kilauea and on the way stopped at a number of Lava flows and features including the Pu'u Pua'i cinder cone. some roadside steam vents and the Thurston Lava tubes. The Eastern Rift zone at the Ocean is amazing. There's no human habitation and it is stunningly beautiful. We then headed back up the slopes to a Military Barracks for dinner. Again the food was great and not expensive. Our final stop was a trip back up to the crater for a sunset viewing of the Volcano Crater again. I can't thank our guide Mel enough for his warmth, his humour, his extensive knowledge and the way he shared it with us. He went above and beyond to make a day that could have been a disaster due to the weather an unforgettable memory of a lifetime. TLDR: Mel the tour guide is awesome. The Mt Kilauea Volcano tour is awesome. Do it.

The tour was listed as Pearl Harbor, Dole factory, and Polynesian cultural center- but it was so much more. Toured North Beach, Japanese Temple, and several site seeing areas. Our tour guide Dennis was great- gave lots of history and information. 6am-6pm. Well worth the money!

Traveled with my sister to Hawaii a few weeks ago. Had the half day Pearl Harbor w/City Tour booked with Discover Hawaii Tours. Although it rained all day, and all ferry boats to the Pearl Harbor Memorial were cancelled, we still enjoyed our time spent on this tour. Cousin Shannon was very informative & was a fine representative of "aloha," and we appreciated the coziness that a smaller coach provided. This tour was very well priced and everything was on time and as advertised. In spite of a rare miserably wet day in Honolulu, we still enjoyed our tour!

This is a very mixed review... I booked this tour a few months in advance and I was contacted after booking and told that the flights to/from Hilo and Maui were more than expected...ok, not so much a problem. We were given the choice to pick another day or pay more, so, we opted to pay more. A week later, I get an email from what looked to be the Discover Hawaii folks asking me to call them at another 1-800 number and referenced a trip different than the one that I scheduled....immediately I emailed Discover Hawaii and let them know about this phishing email. To date, I have received no response from the Discover Hawaii folks. So, please be aware of this scam. Onto the tour day: When we arrived in Hilo, there was no tour guide in site to welcome us. Luckily, we stoped at the Blue Hawaii desk and check ourselves in for our helicopter tour, which was awesome, best part of the tour. Upon returning from our helicopter tour, still no tour guide.... Finally, after calling the dispatch center we were picked up after waiting 45 minutes and learned that the other portion of our group was already eating. The seats on the bus were peeling and split....again, not whaat we expected. The tour guide was so-so throughout the tour in that he kept referring to things and then telling us that we would talk about them later only to find that they were never addressed again. My advice, choose another company to tour with.

We don't usually do tours but decided we wanted to ensure that we got through the Arizona memorial at a decent hour so decided to book with these guys. Was easy to book and everything ran smoothly- very little waiting around time. Keith was our guide and as a born and raised local he had some great insider knowledge (and terrible jokes....) which added to the experience. Be aware that the guide doesn't stick with you the whole day so gives you some time to explore at your own pace which was good. Bit of a tight time period on the USS Missouri- would have liked to explore a little more - but overall great
