Hawaii Events: December 2013

December 1-20: Vans Triple Crown of Surfing
On the best and biggest surf days catch the world’s best surfers on the world’s best waves. The 31st annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is the premier series of professional surfing events and the final stop on the ASP World Surfing Tour.

December 7: Honolulu City Lights
Honolulu City Lights begins on December 7 at 4pm with food, rides, and souvenir booths on the City Hall grounds. At 6pm, the tree lighting ceremony takes place and the parade begins at Aala Park and proceeds down King Street. The 50’ Christmas tree with be lit by the mayor at 6:30.

December 8: Honolulu Marathon
The 41st annual Honolulu Marathon course runs alongside Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, and Koko Head volcanic crater. Registration is now open.

December 21: Hawaii Kai Marina Holiday Boat Parade
Boats will be elaborately decorated with lights as they parade through the beautiful Hawaii Kai Marina waterway. Concert and “Festival of Lights” Holiday Boat Parade, 4:30pm with boat parade around 6:30pm.

December 7-8: Holiday Lighting of the Banyan Tree
Lahaina’s historic Banyan Tree will be lit with thousands of Christmas lights during the 16th annual lighting ceremony. Santa Claus will be there along with carolers, entertainment, and kids’ festivities.

December 8: Holiday Pops
Get in the holiday spirit with the Maui Pops Orchestra. The Holiday Pops concert takes place in the Castle Theater from 3-5pm.

December 22: Santa Visits Hula Grill
Santa and his “reindeer” arrive by outrigger canoe and make a pretty fantastic landing onto Kaanapali Beach. Mrs. Claus and Santa’s elves will entertain your kids as they wait in line to tell Santa their Christmas wishes. Elves will also help kids decorate cookies and make ornaments. Hours are from 4-6pm.

December 7: Christmas in Waimea
There will be holiday events, activities, and celebrations all throughout Waimea town throughout the day. Events culminate with the annual lighted parade, starting at 5:30pm from historic Church Row Park to Waimea Park.

December 7: Christmas at Hulihee Palace
Kick off the Christmas holiday season at the 4th annual Christmas at the historic Hulihee Palace in the heart of downtown Kailua Village. There will be a royal holiday dinner in honor of Queen Emma, a live and silent auction, and holiday performances. Hours are 5-10pm.

December 24: Mokuaikaua Church Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
A Christmas Eve service will be held at Hawaii’s first Christian church at 8pm.

December 6: Festival of Lights
The 16th annual festival will begin at Kauai’s Historic County Building with an opening ceremony featuring the Kauai Chorale and a lighting countdown. The Festival of Lights display inside the Country Building can be seen from 6-8pm on weekends. The Historic County Building Park lights come on at 6pm nightly. The festival continues through December 26.

December 31: New Year’s Eve Fireworks and Music at Poipu Beach
Fabulous fireworks ring in the New Year at Poipu Beach, Kauai. Join the fun from 4-9:45 pm with food booths, local music, keiki activity area and more.
