Hawaiian Dundee

Hiking

Hawaiian Dundee in Lihue HI

Enjoy hiking and rappelling - This exclusive adventure brings you into Hulei`ia National Wildlife Refuge, home to some of Hawaii's native wetland birds and plants. See famous movie locations and historic sites such as the Akekoko (Menehune) Fishpond. From your meeting location at Kalapaki beach, your guides will take you on a short van ride to the trail head leading to two secluded, private waterfalls! At the top of the trail, you will be given detailed instruction on rappelling and practice on a 25 foot dry land course. Then start your 15-minute jungle hike down a trail cut into the hillside. The forest is abundant with guava, passion fruit, laua`e fern, noni fruit and more. Your first stop will be at BAMBOO FALLS with a nearly 30 foot face of dancing water. Here is where you will get your first chances to rappel (and swim in the jungle pool below). Once you have gained your confidence with several descents, you can snap some keepsake pictures, before continuing on your short trek to reach the spectacular, 60 foot DUNDEE FALLS. Here you will challenge your skills (and nerve) rappelling down this awesome wall of cascading water (for 12yrs. and up only). Once you have experienced the thrill of conquering Dundee Falls (maybe more than once?), dry off, gather your things and start the 15-minute hike back to the picnic area. Here you will wrap up your journey with a gourmet deli lunch in the shade of the "Picnic Hale" on a bluff overlooking the Hule`ia Valley. The drive back will stop at the fishpond look out for another beautiful birds eye view of the river and valley! Sunscreen and sunglasses recommended.

*NOTE: It's not zip lining, it's not rock climbing, it's RAPPELLING. Rappelling is a controlled descent down a rock face using a rope. This once in a life time experience is a thrilling way to get up close and personal with one of Kauai's most popular natural attractions. The expertly trained staff use the best gear and promote safety first.

Departure Point: Check-in at Da Life Outdoor Gear Store, Lihue
Duration: 5-1/2 hours
Equipment: Rappel gear with safety helmet (provided)
Inclusions: Hike, swim, and rappel
Deli Menu: Choice of turkey, roast beef, tuna, ham or veggie sandwich (note selection when booking)

Capt. Andy's Southern Star Na Pali Dinner Sunset Sail

Capt. Andy's Sailing, Inc. • 4353 Waialo Road, Ste. 1A-2A • Ele'ele, Kauai, HI 96705   View on Map

Dinner Cruises

Capt. Andy's Southern Star Na Pali Dinner Sunset Sail in Ele'ele, Kauai HI

The Na Pali Dinner Sunset Sail is our premier “dinner with a view” experience. Sunsets at sea, viewed from Southern Star, are spectacular. Passengers will enjoy a panoramic view of the entire coastline from Haena to Milolii, with the “forbidden” island of Ni’ihau in the distance. Each day is unique, as the light reacts with clouds and landscapes. Rainbows frequently add color to the distant mountains.

The sail starts with a short briefing and introduction as we depart from Port Allen and head West, then North and upwind on the Na Pali (depending on the conditions).

Meanwhile our team of onboard chefs will get busy preparing the fresh meal. Unlike other charter boats, Southern Star is equipped with a full galley (kitchen) and bar. This means that the meal can be prepared fresh onboard instead of the standard practice of pre-cooking food.

On most days the Hawaiian tradewinds are blowing from the East, which makes for a perfect downwind sail once we reach our turnaround point. The crew’s objective on this sail is to position the boat for a calm, downwind sail during dinner service. Once we reach our turnaround, the crew will power down Southern’s twin diesels and hoist the massive mainsail and jib. Now you’re set up for some sailing, relaxing and yummy food.

We time the sail to pull in at Port Allen near dusk, our goal is to return you to shore safe, happy and full.

Menu
Salad Options

  • Na Pali Grill Caesar salad - Romaine lettuce, croutons and parmesan

  • Kauai mixed green salad - Locally grown greens and lilikoi vinaigrette dressing

Main Course
  • Grilled New York Steak - Choice American beef grilled with Hawaiian salt and ‘secret spices’

  • Barbecue Jumbo Shrimp with a Sambal Aioli

  • Vegetarian option upon request - Portobello Mushroom with tamarind glaze

  • Roasted Potato Medley

  • Seasonal Vegetable

  • Fresh Baked Dessert: Chef’s choice

  • Drinks: Cocktails (beer, wine and “sneaky tikis”) soft drinks and water included.

Attire and Facilities: Our passengers enjoy large shaded cabin areas, comfortable cushioned seating and clean rest rooms. We suggest bringing layers, you can always change onboard. There is no snorkeling on this trip.

Sightseeing

Waimea Canyon, Wailua River & Fern Grotto Adventure in Waimea, Kauai HI

On this Kauai tour you will enjoy a day filled with the lush beauty, legends and saga of Hawaii's "Garden Isle." Journey to the majestic Waimea Canyon, which Mark Twain called, "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Over 10 miles long, and almost 4,000 feet deep this marvel was formed by erosion and the catastrophic collapse of the volcano that created Kauai, Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses 1,866 acres and is a popular tourist attraction on the island. It provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails. Enjoy the drive along Route 580, which provides gorgeous views of the Wailua River. We'll make several 5-10 minute photo stops along the route for a good leg stretch and restroom breaks.

Onward and upward! Driving up to 3,400 feet to see the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" - Waimea Canyon! The canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,500 feet deep. It was carved thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale's summit.

Cruise along the southern coast, drive though Poipu, a resort getaway for those in the know and home of the Spouting Horn. This natural wonder occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface, making an eerie hissing noise.

Afterwards, head back towards the Wailua River for your Wailua River Cruise (admission included). This is the only river boat trip in all of Hawaii! Sail up this historic, sacred river takes about 40 minutes (one way) on a long, flat-bottom boat.

Sightseeing

Waimea Canyon & Fern Grotto Tour - Kauai in Waimea, Kauai HI

A visit to both sides of the island is a study in contrasts. You’ll see how the walls of Waimea Canyon, formed over thousands of years by volcanic activity and erosion, play against the dense, emerald green foliage found in so many other regions of Kauai.

Seeing Kauai’s most beautiful spots in person will demonstrate why this island is known as “The Garden Isle”. During your all-day tour, the lush vegetation covering all altitudes will surround you: from towering Eucalyptus trees projecting from the 3,500-foot cliffs to the deep valleys and fern-covered grottos.

In stark contrast to all of Kauai’s lushness is Waimea Canyon State Park. Over thousands of years earthquakes and erosion have created dramatic variation in the landscape. Waimea Canyon, “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific” is one of the showpieces on the tour and offers one of the best views of the western coast of the island.
On the eastern side of the island you’ll take a boat cruise down the Wailua River. In the midst of the intensely green landscape, you’ll find the Fern Grotto, draped in tropical ferns.)

Capt. Andy's Southern Star Napali Snorkel BBQ Sail

Snorkel Cruises

Capt. Andy's Southern Star Napali Snorkel BBQ Sail in Ele'ele, Kauai HI

This Southern Star sailing adventure gets an early departure from Port Allen on the West shore of Kauai. As we head towards Na Pali you’ll see views of Niihau, Polihale and the ridges of Kokee. The am departure generally means we have calmer conditions and virtually ensures an encounter with the massive pod of Hawaiian Spinner dolphins that cruise up the coast daily.

Generally we take a nearshore route up the entire coast then sail downwind offshore so you get a variety of views. On Na Pali you’ll see spectacular sea cliffs, numerous waterfalls and lava tubes. Kauai is the oldest of the main Hawaiian islands, and this carved coastline is the result of nearly 8 million years of exposure to wind, waves and rain. In addition to seagoing skills, our crew is knowledgeable in the history and legends of the ancient civilizations that once inhabited these verdant valleys.

After a relaxing and beautiful downwind sail, we’ll pull in to one or our favorite remote snorkel spots. Here, we anchor and passengers can get in the water, or simply relax. After snorkeling the crew prepares a delicious lunch in our onboard kitchen, which we serve with beer and wine (only available after snorkeling). Lastly, we’ll cruise home to Port Allen.

Attire and Facilities: Our passengers enjoy large shaded cabin areas, comfortable cushioned seating, clean rest rooms and freshwater showers. Wear your swimsuits and bring a towel and sunscreen.

Snorkeling, Weather and Destinations: Snorkel gear and instruction provided. Na Pali Coast and snorkeling are conditions permitting. Tour destination will be determined based on passenger comfort and safety.

Menu:
Continental Breakfast: Assorted pastries - fruit - juice and coffee.

BBQ Lunch: Your choice of burger, chicken burger or vegetarian burger. Cole Slaw - Baked Beans. Fresh Baked Cookies for dessert. Beer and wine available after snorkeling.

No Children under the age of 2 allowed.)

Sightseeing

Waimea Canyon Experience in Waimea, Kauai HI

This half day Kauai tour will take you to explore panoramic Waimea Canyon which Mark Twain called, "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Over ten miles long, and almost 4,000 feet deep, this marvel was formed by erosion and the catastrophic collapse of the volcano that created Kauai. Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses, 1,866 acres and is a popular tourist attraction on the island. It provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails. It can be accessed from Waimea on Hawaii state road 550, which is 18 miles long and leads up to Koke`e State Park. The island of Niihau, only a short distance west of Kauai at that point, can be clearly seen from the highway. See Hanapepe Lookout, exciting Spouting Horn and the south coast Poipu Resorts made famous in the Elvis Presley movie, Blue Hawaii. View Koloa Sugar Mill, Queen Victoria's profile and Nawiliwili Harbor.

Cruise along the southern coast, diving through Poipu, a resort getaway for those in the know and home of the Spouting Horn. This natural wonder occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface, making an eerie hissing noise.

Passengers in the Poipu area will not see Koloa Sugar Mill, Queen Victoria's profile. No host lunch.
