Description

from Island Breeze Lu'au
Winner of the "Best of West Hawaii" award which was first presented in 2000, the Island Breeze Luau at King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel is a favorite of kama'aina (local residents), visitors and travel professionals.

Each evening guests are invited to join in a cultural experience that shouldn't be missed. The lu'au is well known for its delicious food and its amazing Polynesian production, and its beautiful unique location. It is held on the beachfront of historic Kamakahonu Bay and Ahu Ena, Kamehameha the Great's former estate in Kailua-Kona. Guests enjoy a backdrop of passing fishing boats, paddlers in outrigger canoes, and the lights of Kona and Mount Hualalai.

Considered a "Royal Hawaiian Experience", the lu'au features a 22 dish buffet, open bar, Polynesian arts & crafts demonstrations, and the Royal Court procession. Highlighting the evening is the spectacular Polynesian Revue. Where authenticity and the skills of the Island Breeze Ohana, is matched only by the spirit of aloha they share with the audience. All of this creates a very special cultural experience and memories that will last a lifetime.

"A fun evening"

This was a fun experience in a nice setting! The food was good and the dancers were too - including the band and the singers the emcee did spent a lot of time trying to "pump up the crowd" though, which wasn't really necessary in this setting. Other than that though, it was a fun way to spend the evening. One point though - they closed the bar quite early for an even with an open bar, so we didn't have much opportunity to take advantage of that - the bar was also nearly 50m from our dinner tables, so it's a long walk to get drinks, even for a pretty light drinker like me!

"Amazing Experience"

I have never been to a Luau before, so I don't have anything to compare this too, but we had an amazing time! The staff was great and check-in was pretty quick. We happened to be there on a night that was not busy at all (a rarity I understand - we heard the staff talking about how unusual it was). You begin by getting your picture taken, you have an option at that point to upgrade to a flower lei or stick with the shell one provided (we kept the shell one - it was nice and a great keepsake). You then have the option to purchase the picture, it is something we like to do, so we did - it was only 25 I think? The experience was great. They had many different things to partake in, not just the food. They had games, fake tattoos and they taught us how to do a hula dance. They also dug up the whole roast pig in front of everyone if you wanted to watch. The food was excellent. They had a lot of different options, and even for me (a vegetarian) there was plenty to choose from. The only thing I would recommend is not to bother putting on your preference form that you are a vegetarian, it was just pasta with steamed veggies. I much preferred heading to the buffet and getting my own food then the one provided. The drinks were great, and included, which was cool. They had punch for the kids and a mai tai self serve station for the adults. The entertainment was on point! They told an amazing story through song and dance, taking us on a journey of the Islands. It was fantastic. There were so many different types of dances and songs. Afterwards we even got the opportunity to speak with the dancers and take photos with them. I can't say enough about it. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

"One of the better Luaus"

Beautiful setting right by the ocean. Everything is pretty well organized as far as seating and getting your food and drinks. I don't think there's really a bad seat in the venue, so personally I wouldn't pay extra for priority seating. The food was probably some of the best I've ever had at a luau. The Kona coffee chicken was absolutely delicious. It was also kind of cool that in addition to the traditional pig, they also cooked a couple of turkeys all day and they were also delicious. The show itself was very entertaining and well done. It ended of course with the obligatory fire dancer, which is always exciting. The price includes shell leis, but you can pay a little extra and get real flower leis. We'd recommend this one if you're looking for a nice luau experience.

This is absolutely the best luau on the Big Island. Auntie Tutu is the greatest and we love the theme of history of Keauhou.
