Description

from Haleo Luau
Island Breeze Productions presents Haleo each Monday evening in the incomparable oceanfront setting at Sheraton Keauhou Bay's Bay View Lawn.

Haleo, the “voice of life,” celebrates the history of Keauhou and the heart of those who came from this land. The talented dancers and musicians of Island Breeze Productions invite you to join them on a journey to the past and experience a special time in Hawaiian history.

Held on the oceanfront of the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa, this luau brings you back to a time that is remembered and cherished. From the birth of Kamehameha III to surfing tales of He’eia Bay to the battle of Kuamo’o, performers share the stories of ancient Hawaii through language, culture, music and dance. Keauhou translated into English means “new era.” The area is significant for being the playground of Hawaii’s royalty, ali’i.

Meet the dancers before the show and “talk story.” Enjoy live dinner music under the Hala trees on the southern shores of Keauhou Bay and indulge in a Hawaiian feast that’s so unique it can only be found in paradise.

"Haleo Luau"

Every Luau says they are the best. I read reviews on them all and decided on the Luau at the Sheraton Resort in Kona since we were staying there and the reviews were great! Not disappointed. My 2 daughters weren't too excited when I told them we were going to a luau but quickly changed their minds once we got there. Hawaii weather was great, food was fantastic, setting was great and the entertainment was a 10+. A must to see when you are on the Big Island.

Tip: Bring your appetite there are so many choices. The pulled pork from the pig roasted all day was the best that I have ever eaten!!!

Highly recommend the Haleo Luau! This is the first luau I have attended as an adult, and I was highly impressed with the quality of talent and the show. We were guests at the hotel, which made it especially easy to attend. The outdoor setting was beautiful, the dancers were amazing and so entertaining, and the talent was top notch. From the minute we sat down to the final bow, they kept the show moving, the entertainment coming, and the stories flowing. There truly wasn't a dull moment! I really liked that we got to learn more about the islands, the people, and the traditions as we were entertained. And I especially appreciated that while they encouraged audience participation, their intention was to have fun, and not to try and embarrass people (which is what I remember from when I was a kid!). There were activities for kids to do, hula lessons for those who were interested, and the food was tasty too. All around a very enjoyable and memorable experience!

"A Cultural Hawaiian History through music, dance and song not to be missed"

Over the many years we have coming to the Islands, we have been to many luaus but this luau was different. Rather than a show of singers and dancers performing routines in random order with little or no explanation to the guests about their meaning or history to the song or dance, Auntie Tu Tu guides the guest through Hawaiian history from it’s very beginning to the 20th century through her dialogue (which is very interesting), the very talented musicians who not only play well but possess delightful voices, the dancers with their period costumes and the singing. The children in attendance were invited to sit near the stage during the performance and many performers came down to interact with them. It looked like they really enjoyed the fire dancer, Very well choreographed show. The Sheraton kitchen provided a delightful dinner buffet with many traditional Hawaiian foods (anyone care for Poi?) including purple potato salad, Taro rolls, fresh swordfish, teriyaki beef, and so on. There was a bar set up so one could have drinks other than Mai Tais if one chose to so so. My wife enjoyed their Chardonnay as it didn’t have the strong Oak flavor so many possess. One nice feature of this luau is there is no preferred seating charge as we found at the Royal Kona Luau a few years ago. You should arrive early before the luau opens, the time set by the performing company based on sunset time. We arrived a little before 5pm when the check-in desk opened and got in line for the opening to the luau which was at 5:30, Being near the front of the line we were able to get a table in front of the stage. But fear not as the stage is raised above the lawn seating area so if seated further towrad the back, you would still have a good view. If you park in the Sheraton parking lot and have to take a ticket to get the gate to open, be sure to visit the luau bartender to have your ticket validated for a $5 charge. Otherwise you may have either a higher charge or no charge when you leave, depending if the exit gate is left open or closed. It was open when we left. This was IMHO the best luau we have attended. Thank you to Auntie Tu Tu, her performing company and the Sheraton staff for providing such a memorable evening.

"Aunty Tutu makes the show and dancers are great"

We've been to several different luaus on the various islands and this was our second most favorite (best being Feast at LeLe on Maui). The setting is out on a nice lawn and food is very good and diverse. The downside is it is served buffet style so be prepared to stand in line (goes pretty fast, but it still can be tedious). There is good amount of audience participation (games, temporary tattoos, dance lessons, etc). Would agree with other comments that Aunty Tutu is the perfect MC. Definitely worth a go while on the Big Island. Unlimited alcoholic beverages included in the price which is not entirely common based on other luaus we've been to.

"Fantastic Evening"

The Haleo Luau is an amazing, wonderful, educational evening. Our night started, after checking in, with a beautiful sunset. Then the hostess and M.C., Aunty Tutu, took over. One of the most delightful women ever. Everyone is a part of her Ohana, or family, and that is the way that she makes you feel. The food was amazing, especially the kalua pork and the Hawaiian sweet potato salad. There is hula and songs while you are eating, then the show starts. The dancers, both make and female, are very talented. Aunty Tutu also weaves Hawaiian history into the show so that you are educated about the Hawaiian people and traditions. The ending was a fire knife dancer that was amazing. All in all, a very wonderful evening.
