"Exciting Luau"

We really enjoyed the luau and festivities from the time we got there to the time we left. The dancers and the buffet were great. Our tour guide "Greg" made the bus ride go by quickly with his wit and knowledge.

The Germaine Luau was absolutely fantastic and the best of two luaus that we attended while in Hawaii. We paid a little extra for seats closer to stage, and the one on one service and spacious seating was well worth it. Everything from the greeting as we arrived to the friendly staff was so impressive. The beautiful ocean waves were within just a few feet of your arrival area, make a stunning backdrop for photographs. We absolutely loved this luau and the dancers were amazing and talented. Our 32 year old son was chosen to dance with a female hula dancer, and it was just one of the best times we will always remember. If we ever get to return to Hawaii, we will go back to this luau for sure.

"Aloha Germaine!"
January, 2015
The setting is beautiful for Germaines's Luau on the shore of West Oahu . The show is right on the oceans edge in Kapolei. The sunset was amazing and during the festivities you could hear the sounds of the ocean. They have the most kind and helpful service and everyone makes you feel like you are there for them! The stories told in dance were mesmerizing, we even attempted the hula with them. The smell of the underground oven, roasting the pig, lets you know that you are in for an amazing feast. We dressed up for the occasion and the Luau was wonderful.

Very disappointed with the food that was served; expected much better. What should have been the highlight of the meal [the pig] was bland and tasteless. Was very surprised that there were no vegetables being served - a small green salad is not 'vegetables'. Paper plates were also disappointing. As for the 'entertainment'; what was put on during the meal was derivative and dull - and also hugely disrespectful with talking over the top of the local traditions being enacted. The main show itself was quite good, with good representations of the various Pacific island traditional cultures. Overall though, I expected more and they didn't deliver.

By far the most impressive aspect was the efficiency with which the well-seasoned staff moved people around the grounds, through the buffet AND hovered over you on the way out (we literally had a gentleman set a trash can on our table and wait for us to gather our sandals before removing all our drink cups with one arm movement). The food was good! Not 5 stars, but better than expected and they allowed people to go up as many times as needed- there were salty old men piling pig 6-8" high with a giddy (drunk) smirk. The drinks were surprisingly stiff and the bar staff was engaging and fun- in fact, all of the staff seemed bright and cheery, which added to the overall party/vacation atmosphere. They have water stations at the bar and unlimited soft drinks/coffee at the gift shop, so no issues staying hydrated or keeping the kids on a sugar high. The entertainment was OK. As others have mentioned, the female dancers were well choreographed and "fun to watch", per my 12yo nephew...he may have matured a couple years during the 3 hour show. We spent most of one dance trying to figure out if one of the dancers was even wearing a top, which I am confident she was not. Nothing was showing (her hair was strategically placed), but be warned that there is a lot of skin, gyrating and some thrusting (mostly the men). Speaking of the men, they were generally not in-sync and one or two of the dances were an absolute hot mess...guys looking confused, out of step, MC's talking/yelling over the top....just strange. Mind you, the dancers appear to be having a blast (maybe a couple Mai Tai's backstage?), but not first-rate entertainment. The fire-spinner was very cool, but this was maybe 5 minutes out of a show that started with a cover band from 6-7 and then went on to's a haul. The seating is all aimed at the stage which is placed 90 degrees off the beach, so there is not a view of the ocean during the show or (really) from any of the seats. It's off to the side. The sunset was fabulous and the location is nice (once you make it through the neighboring industrial park), but not a beach-side experience, per se. Take a look on google maps to get an idea of the layout- I know some Luas are more situated with the pig pit on the beach and the entertainment on a stage with the ocean as a back-drop, so if that's what you're expecting, you might be disappointed when your assigned seats (if you have the two most pricey tickets) put you on the non-beach end of stage. Overall, it was probably a little too long and more audience participation than I was expecting. Good pig, though....real good.

In terms of a show, this was a fun time! We drove ourselves out there because I can't stand drunk people and the bus ride seemed like a ride from hell. Thank goodness we made that decision. People were rowdy as they arrived, like that'd already been drinking. The night started out with bringing the pig out of the ground, which was awesome and cool to see that tradition! The MCs were a bit annoying and them trying to engage the crowd was not something I enjoyed. I wanted to be entertained and not by other guests. However, the actual show was really nice! As a dancer, I appreciated the skill and talent of the men and women. Obviously the women were better, but all parties danced MANY times and put on a great show! We were entertained!

"Germaines Luau SMH"

We booked the luau as part of our cruise. It appeared from the advertisements that this would be a traditional Hawaiian Luau. The bus ride from the Honolulu cruise terminal took over 1-1/2 hours due to 5 o'clock traffic. (Not Germaine's fault, just a real negative to going to luau) When we arrived we were greeted by approximately 500 other guests. We were seated in permanent picnic table style seating. No view of the ocean. Our view to the stage was blocked by a palm trees growing out of the stage. This made it difficult to see the entertainers. Because there were so many in attendance we did not have the option of moving to another table. When it started we got up and walked to the back of the seating area and watched them pull a pig out of the hole. That was the best part of the luau. When we returned they started the show. It was very commercial and almost cartoonish as to how the MC's talked and acted. We felt like we were at a pep rally at times and they encouraged way too much audience participation for dancing. When we finally saw traditional Hawaiian dancing and fire twirling we enjoyed it. This evening drug on for what seemed hours upon hours. It could have been shorter and less hokey, commercial over the top Hawaiian "culture". I have been to a luau on Maui and it was 100% different and better. This was pretty cheesy. If you want to go to a party atmosphere with loud partying then this is for you. If you want a traditional luau I would recommend passing on this one.

This luau is a must do in Oahu. The show was entertaining and fun! The food was plentiful with a nice mix of choices. Drinks were generous. The shuttle from Honolulu hotels makes this a relaxing trip. Great job! Would highly recommend this for the Hawaiian experience. We visited as a couple --- but this would be a fun family experience. The night we visited there was a group of teenage girls -- and they a blast.
