"Great Entertainment, OK Food Luau Experience"

We had a really nice time with friends as we visited HI for the first time and got to share four hours at Chief's one evening. Such fun! Everyone had a good time. The venue seats hundreds, and it was a bit chaotic and tight at times. That only added to the charm for me. I gave it four vs. five for the food. Not much variety and it was good but not great. At the price, I expected better. Still, I would really recommend Chief's as a great way to spend the evening with family and friends.

Chief’s Luau was one of the highlights of my Hawai’i trip! Started off with the bus pick up with “K” who was an absolute pleasure. Told us stories about Hawai’i and the Hawaiian culture we hadnt heard on previous tours. We had the Royal seating which was amazing. The Chief was brilliant and the food was pretty good. I’m a vegetarian and there were plenty of things i could eat which was my biggest worry. Had an absolutely fantastic night. Big shoutout to the gorgeous K who checked in on us throughout the night and made sure we were having a good time!!! :)

"This isn't a Luau, it's OHANA"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5
Reviewed November 17, 2017 NEW
I have been coming to Hawaii since I was a kid, and I have been to MANY Luaus, last night is the first time I felt like family OHANA. I felt as if a Hawaiian family had invited me to their feast and I was an honorary family member. This was THE BEST Luau I have ever been to. Even though this is a very professional operation, I still felt as if it was this casual BBQ with live music. Let me explain why. Everyone is so lovely and genuinely happy to see you. You feel the love from the moment you arrive (we drove ourselves, so we didn't get to bond with a cultural ambassador). We were warmly greeted and taken straight in for leis, refreshments and photos. Then you are escorted to your table, they are simple folding tables and stackable chairs, but trust me, they are comfortable and stable and you forget all about them once the party starts. Once you know where you are seated, walk around the area. There is so much to see and do. The men learned how to throw a Polynesian javelin, and competed. You can create your own coconut leaf crown, get a tattoo (kid friendly), shop for handcrafted items and take fabulous photos, because this location at sunset is spectacular. Then we meet the Chief (MC) for the night, who is the life and soul of this evening. This man is so talented and so SO much fun. He had me belly laughing all night long, I'm talking the turtles could hear me laughing. Of course you get to eat from the plentiful buffet before the actual show starts. The food was delicious. It all tasted homemade, and since Hawaiians are used to feeding large groups of people on the regular, this never tasted catered, or "changed" for a large crowd. Their pork is the best I've ever had on Hawaii. And it's all you can eat, so come hungry. Now let's talk about the performances. WOW WOW WOW, they are so good. They really do a great job walking you through the history of Polynesia, and the various islands represented. They show you dances and traditions from each region, its very exciting. The night ends with a spectacular show of fire dancing, including a female fire dancer. She is SO GOOD, I filmed her, because that is a very rare occurrence. I love that the Polynesians do not turn their backs on the women, she is as much a warrior as the men. They put on a great show, but I don't know how to express this well. I felt as if they were not putting on a show, as much as they were celebrating their culture and we just happened to be there watching. It was never forced or put on, it was just magical. This evening touched my heart in a way that I haven't had touched in a very VERY long time. I really believe the Polynesians are one of the best cultures in our world and I felt honored to spend time in their home with them. If you only have time for one evening out, THIS IS THE ONE.

"Too expensive for what it is"

I would have enjoyed this experience if it wasn't so expensive. The drinks were watered down. The food was decent but not memorable. The show was fun and the fire dancing is amazing but I was disappointed considering how expensive it was. Drinks and food should be better if you're charging that many people over $100 minimum to attend.
