"Great people, some issues "
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

For the most part we very much enjoyed our stay at the Waikiki Marriott. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and is probably the strongest point to the hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We were in the non-renovated tower, but quite frankly we did not feel the difference. There are two issues that prevent us from giving this a five star review. Firstly the parking lot is an absolute nightmare. The spaces are small, and it is very difficult to negotiate the corners if someone else is coming in the other direction. Secondly, and perhaps even more annoying, is the fact that two weeks before our reservation we received an email from Marriott telling us there would be a $37 resort charge per day per room. Essentially this is a bait and switch regarding pricing as we had no opportunity to decline the resort charge without canceling the reservation, and we did not use the pool or the gym. Marriott - I would have thought better of you.

"Nicely located and spacious rooms with a wonderful view of Diamond Head"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed January 17, 2019 NEW
We stayed here with our family of 4 for 6 days over Christmas. We enjoyed our stay, but we were there mainly to see family so we didn't spend a ton of time at the hotel. The location is nice as it is on the edge of Waikiki so the congestion is not quite as bad as being in the heart of Waikiki. The Pros: -Our room faced Diamond Head and it was lovely to see it and the ocean from our balcony. -The gym was spacious, nice new equipment, and the morning Yoga classes were great. -Pool wasn't very crowded (but we weren't really in there during peak times) -Pool bar has a nice view of the Waikiki Sunset The Cons: -hotel lobby and surrounding areas have a big of a shopping center feel. There is no place to just chill out on a hammock or similar. -Swimming pools are pretty standard rectangular pools (probably built many years ago). There are 2 pools, with a strange vast concrete area between them. -The buffet restaurant was terrible. A meager offering of choices and a very sterile cafeteria feel. Overall, the stay was satisfactory and our room itself was nice, but the lobby area and overall hotel lacked a relaxing island vibe.

was very disappointed. it was very out dated. bathrooms were very small, toilets right next to the tub. had to close the toilet sits down. or else things fall in. asked for ocean front. but didn't know the hotel is facing sideways.

"Renovation "El Cheapo" in progress"

Renovated, but it falls short: weak surface materials in public areas, did not do anything to the 1960 bathtub and vinyl curtain in the bedroom. Room key on the phone/apple watch is a great idea, but what would it worth if not working in the elevator and need to carry the key anyway?

"Great Property and Staff in HNL"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

Of the many trips to Hawaii, I have never stayed at the Marriott Resort and Spa. Rooms are very large, great television with internet options. The staff ar the property is first rate. If you are an Elite Marriot member there are some great upgrades. I understand that the property is renovating rooms and deck pool and should be accomplished by December, 2019. Great Resort.
