"Wonderful Stay!"

We stayed here for 5 days and enjoyed the pool, lounge and nearby beaches. You won't be able to access the beach easily from the property but the hotel has a partnership with the trolley where you can take it into the town. we also rented a car and preferred to just use our car as parking had in and out privileges and the trolley had limited time slots. Make sure you visit Rays on the Bay at least once! The views are great and the food was yummy. we rented bougie boards from the pool shop and had access to them all day. Towels were always easily accessible from the shop as well. Did not appreciate that room service wasn't available as our flight landed around 10pm and we needed food upon check in. We ended up getting snacks from the gift shop and the woman working clearly did not want to be there. all in all, it was lovely trip! we actually ended up getting engaged on the rocks nearby the hotel!! Thank You Sheraton Kona!

"It works"

The rooms need to be updated big time!! That was nothing special but the property is beautiful and the kids loved the pool! We used our points to stay here but still had to pay parking and resort fees which were pretty steep! I would have not been happy at all having to pay those fees after paying for the room with it being in the shape it was in but considering we didn't it was fine for us. The pool really saves this place! The farmers market was really cool too!

This is a lovely property right on the ocean. At night it is a Manta Ray viewing area with many boats in front the hotel. You can snorkel and see the Mantas below. The pools are gorgeous. Great kids area and slide, also an adult only pool. Large rooms. Free trolley shuttle to Kona Town.

"Manage your expectations: Not a 4-star “resort,” and no beach in the area"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5

I was taken aback that this was a Sheraton, and has the word “resort” attached to the property. It’s fine if you are traveling on a budget, but you definitely need a rental car if you stay here. The dining options are below expectations, especially for the price. And a decent beach is a 50 minute drive away. (The trolley takes you to Kailua pier, but it’s not great). The rooms have pretty views, but there isn’t much to do on the property, and you will get stir-crazy very quickly. My friend attempted to get a pedicure, and they turned her away saying they didn’t have the right equipment. For breakfast, Rays on the Bay is pretty much the only option of you don’t want a stale pastry or pre-made breakfast burrito at the Sundry Shop. The only breakfast option at Rays on the Bay is a $30 buffet, which is a terrible value considering the quality of the buffet. I asked the omelette chef for a waffle (waffle iron right beside him), and he gave me a blank stare and said “Sorry, no more batter.” The fruit and other food was not good quality so I paid $30 for an omelette and some coffee. On a positive note, the service (other than my Rays on the Bay breakfast) was pretty decent. Shawn was very nice at the casual pool restaurant (but the food was inedible). And Matthew at the front desk was nice. It’s not the employee’s fault-this seems to be a management (spa, food & beverage) and SPG issue. The hotel needs to be updated badly. I escaped for a night and took an Uber to the Marriott Waikoloa (50 minutes away). It was a world of difference for the same price.

"This was not good at all!!!"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5

Sheraton is a reasonably big name in the hotel industry. Based on this we booked. The moment we landed we were asked to pay $20/day for parking and $30/day for resort fees. So we paid about $350 on checking in. This is way too much and we were NOT advised in advance during the booking process. I got angry and complained and the manager upgraded us to a corner sea facing room. Was the room good? Not at all!! Just a below par room. The mattress was so soft that I couldn’t sleep properly.. The resort facilities were also below par. The restaurant was extremely expensive and the food was also very poor. What a letdown. We spent about $3000 on this 5 day hotel stay for 2 adults and 1 kid. Would I recommend this. Absolutely not!!!!!
