"A Bit Worn Out"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed January 12, 2019 NEW
Had a 2 night stay reserved. The wrap around balcony had an amazing view of the ocean. Was a bit shocked when looking down at the water the huge sandbags shielding the coast from the waves. Now the concierge said the beach was "gone only last week", that much algae and moss does not grow on new sandbags so I beg to differ in my opinion. Though clean, the place was a bit worn out. The bathroom counter had significant wear damage, the double front door had a large repaired crack, the side of the refrigerator was significantly rusty on the outside. The wand in the bidet needed bleaching (it was disgusting). There was a phone message about an informational session for guests. Now being the leery person I am, I wondered if this was a promotional type thing for signing up for time shares at an aging place. A sparsely set "breakfast" of fruit and bread varieties was out though luckily sparsely attended as all gone quickly. The information was decent a a few give aways for buy one get one free tickets given out. Nicely quiet, appeared clean in common areas. Did not use the pool but checked it out. parking lot did not seem large enough for that large of a place. Overpriced for what available. We had to return to the front desk in the morning to get a second card key as front desk closed by 11pm.

"We Enjoyed It!"

We booked through Costco and were very happy with our stay at the Royal Kahana. Our family of four stayed in condo 814 (ocean view) and it was updated, clean and very comfortable. People complained about insects in other reviews but, we never saw one. We knew of the mandatory cleaning fee as it was well spelled out up front; not sure how people would be surprised about this. The beach wasn't usable at the hotel and that was also told to us prior to arrival--there was a public beach just down the road. The pool was wonderful and the grounds were well maintained and clean. Overall, we were very happy with the location and the condo--we would definitely stay there again.

"Enjoy bed bugs? Roaches?"

When I arrived late on November 20th at the Royal Kahana I was met with an unhelpful front desk person who handed me a key and said they would do paperwork in the morning because she had already turned off her computer. I asked if there was someone to help me with my bags and there was not. I asked about parking and she said Park anywhere. She did not tell me how to find my room or give me a map. I asked about breakfast and she handed me some flyer for an orientation. She then told me that on top of the $125 cleaning fee at check out I would also have to pay$25 a night if I wanted clean towels. I was annoyed at this point after a flight delay and the less than enthusiastic greeting. But all that aside. I went out to the parking lot to try to find parking and found there was nothing anywhere near the front of the building and I would have to walk quite a distance dragging my bags in order to get to my room which I had found because I looked online and found a map of the facility. So I went back to the front to leave my car in the drop off zone. By the time I returned inside there was nobody except a security guard sitting in a table by the door. The front desk was closed and no one else was around. I found the elevator to go to my room. When I found my room I open the door set down my bags and turned on the light. Immediately dozens of roaches scattered into the corners and under the appliances. Despite that I proceeded into the room it was late and I wasn't sure what to do. There were Roaches on the ceiling and on the wall. In looking at the bed I saw evidence that there were bed bugs as well. I immediately left the room. The woman downstairs by the door as security was still the only person there. I hand her back the key and told her that there were roaches and that I couldn't stay there. She said she couldn't help me. Her exact words were I don't know I can't help you with that. I then stated that I haven't touched anything in the room and should not be charged to cleaning fee. She asked me if I had closed the door and I said I had. I put my bags in the back of my car and drove to the closest location where I had seen other hotels which is Lahaina. I stopped at the Hyatt Regency and was informed that there weren't any rooms. My phone was dead and I had no way to look up hotels or get directions. It was dark, late and I was very tired. They allowed me to stay in the lobby to charge my phone and start searching for hotels on my laptop. I called dozens of hotels all across the island. I called hotels by the airport hotels in Kihei everywhere I called said they were full. I had been able to book rooms at the Hyatt starting on Wednesday the 21st and it was already 1AM but I couldn't continue to stay in the lobby of the Hyatt so I resigned myself to finding a place to park my rental car and sleep in the car a woman alone far away from home in a place I'm completely unfamiliar with. I didn't know where it was safe to go. I decided that the Safeway parking lot which was open 24 hours was the safest place for me to go. I don't know if I would have slept luckily when I arrived the front desk agent at the Hyatt called and said a customer had just called to say their flight was not going to make it in tonight. So I was able to secure a room for Tuesday night as well as the rest of my stay. This was the worst experience I've ever had traveling. I spent thousands of dollars on this trip I didn't expect luxury but I did expect not to have hotel room filled with vermin. I did not expect to have to make a choice between being eaten alive by bed bugs and sleeping in my car.

When paying 700+ (including cleaning fee and deposit) I didnt expect much and was still disappointed. Room had a stagnant water smell, carpets were sticky, tea pot had rust and old water inside, there were crumbs in the cupboard, dust on the fridge and doors, spots on the bathroom mirrors, and found a roach. After talking to the GM she was not sympathetic in the slightest. Dont waste your money here, The only closest supermarket is about 15-20 mins away.considering the service, rooms, and location it's worth staying ANYWHERE else other then here

I loved staying at the Royal Kahana - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Condo we stayed in had a wonderful view!! I will return! It is located in a very central location. The only thing that I was disappointed in was the small beach in front. I thought it was bigger, but it really didn't matter, the Ka'anapali beach was just down the road about a 1/4 of a mile! Beautiful! All in all I will be back!! the SUNSETS were AMAZING!! Aloha
