"Wonderful hotel complex, right on the beach."

My brother has a 2-bedroom timeshare at this wonderful complex. The unobstructed views from the apartment we stayed in were absolutely breathtaking. We had access to kitchen facilities and a very impressive bathroom. There are a vast number of activities organised for holidaymakers. My wife took up daily Pilates classes (free) and had a massage. The swimming pools available are very impressive, with free towels and sun loungers. All beaches in Hawaii are public access, but there is plenty of space for all. The beach is very sandy. However beware of the places to access the ocean to swim. There are large areas of sharp coral which can cause nasty cuts. Look for the areas with the most swimmers (about 100m up from the hotel). All-in-all a wonderful place in a superb location on Maui.

"Terrible Experience"

Have stayed here and the Marriott Desert Villas in Palm Desert many times and usually had good experiences. This time was truly awful and we won't ever be back to this resort on Maui. Truly disappointing as I have recommended this property dozens of times on the Tripadvisor forums and will no longer do that. The manager at this property is truly bad and I believe went out of her way to make our trip miserable when it was completely unnecessary. We planned our entire trip to Maui around our reservation for a 2 BR Oceanfront unit in the Lahaina and Napili Villas so this was extra disappointing. The wife changed our arrival date and for some reason they changed room type without notifying us. So when I called to confirm if our room was ready I was quite surprised that they had us in the wrong room. Ok, so mistakes happen and we are pretty flexible but the Manager at this location is TERRIBLE. She basically told us too bad for you. We had a 2 BR OF unit reserved and they only had a 1 BR OV and there are 6 of us. So fine I suggest give us the 1 BR and a separate studio and we will make work. (BTW - this was available, she just wouldn't do it) Told her I didn't care about the cost. NO! OK so let us cancel and we will go stay somewhere else. NO! They were extremely rude and forced us to stay in the 1 BR for 3 nights. We had to slide the dining room table into the kitchen to make room for all the beds. We literally could barely walk through our unit. I deal with people all the time and it is my opinion is that this manager just enjoys being mean. A truly bad experience. We were at the desk for at least an hour and got to watch the manager be rude to other people as well. I realize it was Easter weekend and the resort was crowded but this kid of behavior is truly inexcusable and this basically ruined the middle of our trip. Many very simple solutions existed. They weren't ideal but would have made this acceptable. Mine boggling how a service resort could take this attitude. The room would have been fine for 4 people. As a note they have a net restaurant replacing longboards onsite. It is call Kaanapali Grill and Tap Room. It is OK, owned by the Cheeseburger group and the same up and down food and service as those places. The resort area is still the same, pool area still very tight for this size of resort. Many other superior options, we won't be back.

"A+ for the staff. B+ for the pool area & ammenities. C for the Lanai rooms and tower!"

Every year I take my son, now 11, on vacation during his spring break. We don't bring his dad, because then we couldn't drink fancy drinks all day long, have ice cream for breakfast and indulge in expensive and dangerous activities. We always go to Mexico, but this year we decided to try Hawaii instead and here is my report of the Marriott Ocean Club - Lanai towers. The Bad: In terms of the resort, this one is very rundown. It reminded me of resorts I went to in the 80s in Mexico and that is not a good thing. Full disclosure, we stayed in the Lanai tower but perhaps things are better on the other towers? Small outdated room, subpar housekeeping service, just plain ugly buildings and a very fishy-smelly elevator! There are not many restaurants in site which is very inconvenient. The So-so The pool system is another thing altogether... they have clearly renovated these areas and they are beautiful, with shady spots for those of us that are not sun worshippers. It wasn't easy finding chairs if we went down to the pool midday, but we managed to guilt people into letting go off one of their 17 unused chairs. The pool bar is good, nice pricey cocktails but that's how it is. We did use the pool restaurant once or twice for a quick dinner. The food is reasonably priced and just fine, nothing to get excited about. The Good The staff was fantastic, very accommodating and kind, and that matters to me since I go with the kid by myself and I want to give him freedom to roam, but also need a very safe environment. The guests were also very nice, and that is a good sign for a family resort. There was no drunk people, maybe some teenagers and bros that were too excited playing pool basketball and getting into shenanigans but otherwise, a very friendly and nice crowd. The children's center offers a variety of activities all day long, even though my kid usually stays away he did go shore fishing, and had a nice hour of laser tag in the Napili lawn. We also watched Moana in the other hotel lawn, while indulging in all you can eat s'mores.

Marriott has great apartments with a good view. Large rooms, great beds. Restaurants are okay, but they need more and more variety. Lucky you have plenty on offer at Kaanapali Beach resorts. Walk to Whalers Village for shopping.
