"Lovely Hotel"

Nothing to fault in the hotel itself. It is well positioned at one end of Kona and has an ABC shop downstairs which is handy for supplies. The pool and lagoon are great as are the views from many balconies. I wish we had stayed more that one night!

"Nice waterfront property"

This property is on the water with a small beach. The room was good sized and had a fridge which comes in handy. The hotel is situated at the end of a blvd. that has many shops and restaurants that you can just walk to. The restaurant on the property seemed pricey and it was never busy. They do have a coffee shop, ice cream shop, and an ABC store where you can get your own coffee, soft drinks, snacks, liquor, souvenir, etc. They have a nice pool which was always busy and offered drinks and food. The only thing we thought lacking was the fact that there was nowhere on the grounds to sit and enjoy the outdoors, like patio tables and chairs, except at the pool. Sometimes we just wanted to sit outside in the evening but not at the pool.

"Great Stay at the Courtyard King Kam"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

But I will try to be objective about the cons as well. Some negative comments I’ve read are spot on. Bear in mind we stayed in the room as a couple…didn’t try to fit a family of four into one room, so I can’t speak to how that would be. We stayed for nine nights and it was pretty great. Right off, I will admit that some of that may be due to our Platinum Elite status and some of it may be just plain luck, but it was a great stay. All the staff members we dealt with (check in, parking, housekeeping, bellhops, restaurant) were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who checked us in…and Lani, at Honu’s Restaurant (on site) deserves special mention. By the morning we left she knew our names and gave us hugs out the door. We were fortunate to get a room on the top floor of the west tower which had a decent view of the bay. We initially had a double queen bed room, but after one night they were able to move us into a king room on the same floor – slightly worse (but still fine) view, further from the elevator which was a huge plus. Best I can tell the hotel is angled so very few rooms have a direct ocean view. Everything else is partial, and the partial ocean view is really more a view of the pool and bay area or a view of the ocean in the distance. I imagine that even the mountain views are nice, but that the side of the east tower building facing town would be noisier. And partial ocean view rooms on a lower (2nd or 3rd) floor likely have a lot of view of the lobby roof. Room and amenities were fine. In-room safe was perfect. Fridge was a bit goofy (runs for two hours at a time), as were the sliding barn door type bathroom doors. It was pretty standard – don’t expect extreme luxury. Hard to predict when the room would be serviced. Sometimes it was mid-morning and sometimes late afternoon…but they did accommodate one request we made have the room cleaned by the time we returned from an outing. The lanais were nice but not particularly private. Pretty close to your neighbors. Pool/hot tub area was fine but got a bit crowded…and there seemed to be a lot of kids running around without a lot of adult supervision. Maybe it’s that way everywhere. And that’s more a problem with other travelers and not the fault of the hotel. Common areas were interesting, with museum type displays and artwork. Various stores on the hotel property were convenient. Other common amenities like an exercise room, on-site spa and game/activity area seemed nice although I didn’t actually use them. Many other shopping and restaurant options were within walking distance. Hotel is conveniently situated to many tour departure points. Sand beach right outside the hotel was great but a bit small and got crowded at times. There was also easy ocean access on the other side of the pier just outside the hotel. It was nice to be able to walk out of the hotel and get in the ocean. And the snorkeling (both sides of the pier) was some of the best we experienced during our trip…but for the part right outside the hotel you need to swim outside the little lagoon to see the good stuff. PROS: Friendly staff Location (close to shopping/restaurants, sand beach, snorkeling, etc.) Easy parking Good on site restaurant CONS: Elevator was NOISY…would have been unable to sleep in our initial room close to it Parking expensive and access card rarely worked Walls were pretty thin…handful of screaming babies during the stay Poolside restaurant live music can be loud but shuts down by 9:30 or so Limited number of pool chairs for the amount of guests (not sure where to put more though)

This hotel may not be luxury but it has everything you need. Rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. Having the fridge comes in handy. The pool is great but there aren’t many chairs so go early (like before 9 am) to get one. Beach is great too. Love waking up to views of the water and mountain. Lots of great restaurants and shops within walking distance. Staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended staying here.
