Welcome to Kamaole Sands, deemed to be one of the most popular Maui condo rentals. Perfect for couples and families, Kamaole Sands’ one, two, and three bedroom suites surpass other Maui condos in more ways than one.

For starters, you’ll be overlooking Kamaole Beach Park III, one of the best swimming beaches on Maui, surrounded by lush lawns and tropical gardens. Walk among the fish ponds, fountains and waterfalls to the gentle surf. Take the kids to the play area or the Kamaole Sands wading pool. Work your muscles on the tennis courts, then loosen them up in the jet spa. Meet up with your neighbors for cocktails and a barbeque. Later, head back to your suite where you’ll appreciate all the conveniences of home: a fully-equipped kitchen, private lanai, high-speed Internet, color cable TV, air conditioning, and plenty of room to spread out. The condos at Kamaole Sands are indeed beautiful and comfortable, but they are also a lot of fun. Kamaole Sands is one of the most popular condominium resorts on Maui. Accommodations are spacious and comfortable, and there are four complimentary tennis courts, large swimming pool, sun deck, two jet spas, and nine barbeque areas are on property. Overlooking Kamaole Beach Park III, which has a children’s play area and park, the Kamaole Sands offers 15 acres of tropical gardens, complete with ponds, fountains, and waterfalls.

This resort has a two-night minimum stay requirement.

A one time Resort fee of $25.00 plus tax per room will be charged to guests directly upon check in which includes entry gate electronic card, pool gate codes, parking permit, free morning Maui newspaper, free Maui magazine, free local calls, complimentary "Cyber Cafe" access card, Wednesday Mai Tai Party invitation.

Booked on Hotels.com. Nightly room charges and extra resort fees of $60 were disclosed during the online purchase on hotels.com. However, on arrival at the condo, the front desk charged an ADDITIONAL HIDDEN ROOM CLEANING FEE of $109 for a 2 night stay!!! You have to search the fine print of either the hotels website or hotels.com website to see this fee. It is particularly misleading/basically a scam, that they list a destination fee and resort fee, BUT NOT the CLEANING FEE! I would not stay at this hotel again based on this misleading business practice. For an extra $55/night that they tacked on, I would have stayed somewhere nicer.

This is a great property. Very well maintained. Great location! This was the first time renting a condo for vacation. I was very happy we made this choice. All the comforts and conveniences of home in a tropical setting.

This is my second visit to the Kam Sands. Both Times we stayed in private Units. This time it was Building #7, Unit #402. Building 7 would be considered a preferred building with some ocean views and overlooks the courtyard / Gardens and Pool. It was on the 4th Floor. Our Unit was a bit dated and in need of a little TLC around the edges. Things like the towel bar on the oven door kept popping off. The cabinets were the original 1980’s engraved dark wood. There was the odd loose tile. Ours was a 2 bed room 2 Bath with a loft and it had the original spiral staircase. It’s a novelty, creaked a bit and had dings but made the unit seem a little classier. The unit looks like it got a face lift some time in the last 10 years but all the fixtures are still the original. It was an older unit but still a 3-Star if you aren’t fussy. The unit I had a few years ago was much better and had recently had a full reno. This one is getting close to needing the full shebang. Because it was a private unit the linens weren’t all that good. They weren’t threadbare but they weren’t high quality either. Our unit had full AC which was nice. There were also ceiling fans and louvered transoms for the lofts to vent out heat. We had a king bed in the loft that had a fairly new mattress. The 2nd bedroom had a Queen and was on the main floor. The pull out bed was a bit beat up but worked ok for the little one. The dedicated parking stall for this unit is right in front of the elevator. Woo Hoo! As with previous visits to the Kam Sands, there are small ants. We kept our unit religiously clean and threw out the cardboard boxes from CostCo right away after unpacking and never had any ant sightings. Another nice thing this unit featured was a keyless code entry. Yay, no keys to hide or loose at the beach!! The internet was included and was very fast. (Im guessing that’s what the small resort fee was for? ) No problems streaming video. The pool area got a major renovation since the last time I stayed here and it wonderful. Don’t miss the Hawaiian pool party at 3-5 on Wed afternoon. They have plenty of free Mai Tais and hula lessons for those daring enough to try. The KAM 3 beach is right across the street and is great for hanging out and snorkelling. . If you snorkel the rocky point between Kam II and Kam III beach to the North of it, you are pretty much guaranteed to see turtles. I saw one as big as my kitchen table at this spot on this trip. If you are an early riser and enjoy daybreak the turtles will be resting right on the beach. I have seen all kinds of things while snorkelling in this area including spotted eagle rays. Let me state that Kehei (the are this resort is in) means Barren in Hawaiian. Its set in the middle part of the island on the west central coast. Its technically an arid climate in this strip of Maui. Only the immediate area of about a ¼ mile adjacent the coast is green and tropical. The further inland you go its mostly farm land and scrub brush. Having said this, Maui got an incredible amount of rain this fall and the entire island is very green and lush right now in comparison to the last few years. We had a deluge of rain that was out of the ordinary in over 10 years of visiting Maui this time of year. I’ll call it a freak thing. This part of the Island is subject to the "Trade Winds" which means that in November you can set your watch to the wind. 10-11am the wind starts. At 5pm the wind stops. The best beach time is had by the early risers. You run the risk of sandblasted all afternoon long on the beach if you wait till later in the day, although we had two wind free days for some reason, which again is out of the ordinary. If you want wind free beach time in Nov/ Dec , but risk a likelihood of intermittent showers, then go to the Kanapalli (north west side) area. If you want dry, less tropical with good swimming and snorkelling with wind most of the afternoon go to Kehei. I prefer Kehei because of the sun. If money is no object the Wilea area 10 minutes south of Kehei is where lots of VIP’s stay. If you need a daytime beach without wind a short 10 min car ride to the south will have plenty of wind free locations in the Wilea area. I like white rock or Polo beach or my favorite Olou/Makapu. Further to the south is Big Beach. There were 4x gas BBQ's per apt block area in the center garden. Most people cook while in Maui it seems, rather than going out for dinner. We had to wait a couple of times for BBQ access. There is a grocery store (Foodland) about 7-8 blocks North up the road. If you shop there, mention youre staying at the Kam Sands and they will give you the “club” price on food, which might save you a couple of bucks. If you only need a few snacks or some liquor, there is an ABC and a Whalers ( 711) style convenience stores about 4-5 blocks north. Costco and Walmart are back in the town of Kahului about a 30 min car ride on the highway to the middle of the island. There are a dozen places to eat within about a 5 block walk of the Kam Sands. If you like pub food Moose McGillycuddys is a favorite. I like going there for $3 happy hr and watching the sunset from their 2nd floor ocean view. Below this pub is Freds Mexican Cantina. Tucked in behind them is the “808 Bistro” Kihei’s Best kept fine dining secret. Check out my reviews on them. There is no restaurant on site. The walkability of the area is another reason why I prefer the Kehei area to the “West Maui / Kanapalli side. If you are in Maui to Scuba Dive, youre in luck, the Kam Sands is located about a quarter mile from the Kihei boat ramp where several (but not all) local dive charters launch from. This is very convenient, especially when leaving early in the morning. Others leave from the Maalea Harbor which is a half hour drive to the north, so make sure to ask where the dive shop leaves from before committing to using them. Heres the quick stats: Curb Appeal: 9/10 General Resort Cleanliness: 9/10 Room Décor: 6/10 Bed Comfort & Quality: 6/10 Linen: 5/10 Housekeeping: 7/10 Internet Speed/Access: 10/10 General Quietness: 10/10 Safe Atmosphere: 10/10 Staff Friendliness: 9/10 Pool: 8/10 Parking: 9/10 Location relative to services: 8/10 Even with the few rough edges, the Kamaole Sands is still a fantastic Condo complex and is probably my 3rd favorite of the RCI properties that I regularly get access too. We rented an apartment there for our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience. It felt like home there but vacation fairytale-like atmosphere. The beach is right there, and it is a great one. Lots of stores around. Convenient to travel any direction from there. We loved the beautiful resort and the staff there is professional. The apartment itself was great too, especially kitchen. I loved seeing lizards everywhere, they are so cute. Overall experience was very cozy, romantic and inspiring. Recommending to everyone. Viktoria and Nicholas Brown

We rented this unit for two weeks for six adults, a child and a toddler. The owner was very accommodating in preparing for our trip and quickly answered all of our many questions promptly. The unit was one of the few that had three bathrooms and three bedrooms with the right bed configuration to accommodate our group. The location was incredible, both within the complex and the proximity to the beach. We had stayed in South Kihei a number of times previously within walking distance of the beach, and wanted to share that experience with our children and grandchildren. I will say up front that the condo was well equipped to accommodate our group, including a porta-crib, baby gate, and an umbrella stroller. One of the best items was a foldable wagon which was great to load up all our gear into and walk to the beach, or to haul up the many loads of groceries from the parking lot. The photos of the unit were very attractive but a few things had changed from what was in the photos. The main one of these was the table was different and the chairs had been replaced with benches along the sides. And not great benches - somewhat wobbly and not very safe and secure feeling. We had to put throw cushions on the two two remaining chairs to be able to sit up to table height on them. The beds were okay, but not up to the standard one might expect in this " premium" unit. One thing we all found lacking was dressers with drawers in the bedrooms. There were some shelves in the closets, but it would have been nice to have drawers to put clothes in. Unfortunately, we encountered cleaning and maintenance issues from the moment we arrived. The dishwasher had not been run and was full of dirty dishes. The table and counters had to be cleaned before using them. There were a number of other cleaning issues we discovered as we went along, as well,as non-functioning fans and other things. Pretty much all the beach and "toy" items in the lanai locker were covered in sand. And it seemed everything we went to use was broken - the beach umbrella, several of the boogie boards and the inflatable toys leaked. The styrofoam cooler had food and trash from sometime in the distant past. The bigger wheeled cooler had both carry handles broken off and was filthy. The place needs a complete and thorough cleaning. We contacted the owner on several occasions and he was very sympathetic. He told us to throw out any broken items and buy new and he would reimburse us. I would hesitate to recommend this unit except for the efforts of the owner. We have had ongoing communications during out time in the unit and since we left. He has carefully noted all the issues involved and will deal with them as quickly as possible. He has also said he will make more frequent personal inspections of the unit rather than depending on the cleaning and maintenance companies to ensure things are up to his standards. In addition, he refunded $100 of the cleaning fee to partly compensate for some of time we had to spend cleaning and dealing with other issues. Unfortunately this was not out best experience renting in Kihei but we managed to make the best of the situation. The beaches were great and we still had a fantastic time!
