"Fully outdated"

It was quite disappointing when we came into the hotel. It all looked fully outdated. Staff was friendly but the whole interior looked from the 80’s. Not only from the type of colors but also from the point of maintenance. E.g. our bathroom door didn’t even close. Location is OK, close to the airport and at the beach, but an update really would help to make this hotel a nowadays hotel.

Not far from the airport and right on the water. Rooms were nice with the exception that none of us had cream for our coffee. We had drinks in the bar overlooking the water and breakfast and dinner there. Huge portions, good service.

3 nights in room with a king bed. Our concierge, Melanie, was excellent & helped us make the most of our visit to Hilo & Hawaii. She's an excellent local resource & accommodated our interest in the recent volcanic activity.

"Bugs in bed!"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed June 17, 2018 NEW
The room is nice for the price, dated. We had two queen beds in it and have stayed there many times. When we went to bed however, I got several bites on my legs, back, arms and hips. I checked the covers and found three black small bugs. I called the front desk and they sent the cleaning lady to come and change out the sheets. She changed the top sheet , bottom sheet and coverlet. All linen is worn and threadbare with holes in many areas. After she left I pulled open the sheets again and right next to the first pillow was two more bugs, same as the first ones. I took out the pillow from the cases that were not changed but no bugs were there. Within ten minutes I felt another bite and tossed the sheets off. There were two more of the same bugs in my bed. Gave me the creeps. My husbands bed did not have any. It was late so I didn't call again. In the morning I went to the front desk to report what had happened and offered to show the clerk the nine bites on my body beside the ones on my arms. She talked to her supervisor, who never came out. They credited me $50.00. I was so angry this manager did not take the time to talk to me. We had paid nearly $200.00 with tax for this room and also ate dinner there for another $100.00. They should have al least credited me half of what I paid. I guess because there are not many options of places to stay in Hilo, they don't care about taking things like this seriously. I doubt I will be back. Very disappointed as we are locals form the Kona side of the island and without locals to support them in tough times they can not keep their staff employed.

"Great place for a great price!"

The staff was very nice, there wasn't a single employee who didn't greet us with a smile and a kind word. The room was clean, but as others mentioned, a bit dated. The bathroom light switch turned on the light in the open sink/closet area, so when I went to the bathroom at night and turned on the light, I inevitably woke my wife up as well. Parking and basic internet was free (something I've grown to appreciate, as the whole travel industry seems hell-bent on charging for every single amenity that used to be included). There was a very helpful concierge in the lobby that answered all our questions about the island and was happy to book guides and tours for us as well. The location on Hilo bay and next to Lili'uokalani Park and Gardens was tops. The view was beautiful, and the park was a great place for a run. We were just a few minutes from the airport, the Hilo downtown area, and the belt road. The sound of the coqui frogs at night was very noticeable, even with the window closed and the blackout curtains drawn.
