from Waimea Canyon, Wailua River & Fern Grotto Adventure
On this Kauai tour, you will enjoy a day filled with the lush beauty, legends, and saga of Hawaii's "Garden Isle." Journey to the majestic Waimea Canyon, which Mark Twain called, "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Over 10 miles long, and almost 4,000 feet deep this marvel was formed by erosion and the catastrophic collapse of the volcano that created Kauai, Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses 1,866 acres and is a popular tourist attraction on the island. It provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails. Enjoy the drive along Route 580, which provides gorgeous views of the Wailua River. We'll make several 5-10 minute photo stops along the route for a good leg stretch and restroom breaks.

Onward and upward! Driving up to 3,400 feet to see the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" - Waimea Canyon! The canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,500 feet deep. It was carved thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale's summit.

Cruise along the southern coast, drive through Poipu, a resort getaway for those in the know and home of the Spouting Horn. This natural wonder occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface, making an eerie hissing noise.

Afterward, head back towards the Wailua River for your Wailua River Cruise (admission included). This is the only river boat trip in all of Hawaii! Sail up this historic, sacred river takes about 40 minutes (one way) on a long, flat-bottom boat.

We booked several tours throughout our stay in Hawaii. We were on several different islands as a part of our cruise. We were fortunate to ride on Gray Line tours on many of these tours. The equipment was always good and guides were always friendly and knowledgeable. Take a day tour with these folks if you get a chance.

"Pearl Harbor and Circle Island Tour"

Our tour guide was Garfield (Gar) and he was excellent with a wealth of knowledge and entertaining. The tour started at Pearl Harbor for the USS Arizona only and was perfectly fantastic and sobering all in the same. From there we went to Nu'uanu Pali Lookout for a great view of the Windward coast. Next was a stop at the Byodo-in Temple which was gorgeous and then lunch at Kualoa Ranch (not included). From there we hit a cool Macadamian nut farm/shop and toured around the the infamous North Shore for Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay and through the town of Hale'iwa which was alll cool to see. Final stop was the Dole Plantation before returning into the Waikiki area for drop off. My third time to Oahu and first time seeing these (except Pearl) and was well worthy the day to "see" the island!

"nice tour--difficult to hear the guide"

We went to the Peal Harbor/City of Honolulu tour. We had a very small group. Our guide was very nice but we could hardly hear her-her microphone did not project well. I was sitting 2 rows in front of her and had to read her lips to understand anything. She took us around the city and we got out once for photo stop. Then it was on to Pearl Harbor. She gave us our tickets and instructed us where to go and we didn't see her until we got back on the bus a couple of hours later. It was nice to have the PH tour coordinated but I am not sure the city tour was worth it. Make sure you wear a secure hat---it was hot and sunny and windy on top of the bus! I would not recommend the Arizona Memorial. Basically it was a white building on top of the USS Arizona. There was no guide or much information once you got there. I chatted with the National Park representative to get some information, but no one else came up to ask questions and she did not give any general information to the crowd.

"Great tour guides and a great day out"

My friend and I were visiting Oahu for the first time, so we booked two tours with Gray Line. One was the Grand Circle Island tour with Dole Plantation, and the other was the Pearl Harbour and USS Arizona half day tour. Our tour guides, Kimo and Gensen (if we remember correctly), were absolutely fantastic. Gensen took us for our Pearl Harbour tour, showing us some great Honolulu landmarks along the way and keeping everyone entertained with his great sense of humour. Kimo was our guide for the Grand Circle Island tour and was full of knowledge about the island's history and geography. He also made sure we got an extra stop in to see a monk seal that was on one of the North Shore beaches! The coaches are also modern, comfortable and air conditioned. Both of these tours were unforgettable and I owe the experience to Gray Line Polynesian Adventure Tours!
