from Waimea Canyon, Wailua River & Fern Grotto Adventure
On this Kauai tour, you will enjoy a day filled with the lush beauty, legends, and saga of Hawaii's "Garden Isle." Journey to the majestic Waimea Canyon, which Mark Twain called, "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Over 10 miles long, and almost 4,000 feet deep this marvel was formed by erosion and the catastrophic collapse of the volcano that created Kauai, Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses 1,866 acres and is a popular tourist attraction on the island. It provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails. Enjoy the drive along Route 580, which provides gorgeous views of the Wailua River. We'll make several 5-10 minute photo stops along the route for a good leg stretch and restroom breaks.

Onward and upward! Driving up to 3,400 feet to see the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" - Waimea Canyon! The canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,500 feet deep. It was carved thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale's summit.

Cruise along the southern coast, drive through Poipu, a resort getaway for those in the know and home of the Spouting Horn. This natural wonder occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface, making an eerie hissing noise.

Afterward, head back towards the Wailua River for your Wailua River Cruise (admission included). This is the only river boat trip in all of Hawaii! Sail up this historic, sacred river takes about 40 minutes (one way) on a long, flat-bottom boat.

"Good tour but long delays"

I did the "Kauai Waimea Canyon and Wailua River (Tour K1)". Sam the tour guide was great. The sights were great. Sadly the start sucked - it took 2 hours to pick everyone up and to get the tour started. Then lunch took over 90 minutes - maybe a preorder would have made more sense?? We didn't get to opaekka'a falls which wasn't explained and was disappointing. We stopped at a few souvenir shops which again wasn't great. But what we did see was amazing. But the day tour should've been better planned and executed. The fern grotto was amazing - for the 5 minutes we were there!

"Life story of the driver...."

We did the Circle Island of Oahu tour, including Pearl Harbor. Before we arrived at our first stop we knew all about the history of the driver (who requested we call him Captain), we knew his birth date, how many grandchildren he had, that he had diabetes, his wife's ancestry, his military service; no detail of his life was too small to share. One member of our group had an interesting story about Pearl Harbor, but Captain R was only interested in bringing it back to himself. Having said that, his knowledge was excellent, but perhaps a guide should be talking to and not at the clients - I have a been a tour guide and was always followed my training to keep the information relevant, and sometimes silence to appreciate what one is seeing can be appreciated.

"Fantastic and cold"

We're Canadian so cold is no stranger to us. But unfortunately we misunderstood how cold it was. Yeah we wore long pants and I wore my hiking boots and socks. Unfortunately even though I wore a jacket I didn't wear appropriate upper clothing under. So remember to bring a coat and a hoodie. Our visit was at 46F with a wind of about 16mph. It felt like at minimum -2C. Now aside from the chilliness the trip was great, I got a lot of pictures and Wayne our driver was very knowledgable of the history of Haleakala after the mountain and the summit we went to a place for breakfast. It was I suppose average fare so it wasn't too impressive and I was still hungry after. Keeping that in mind if you are one of us crazy people and don't mind getting up at 2am and coming back to the hotel for about 11am it's a great tour. Make sure to have a good long afternoon nap the night prior.

Booked this tour as I wanted to see as much of the island in the little time I had. Ed the driver was a wealth of knowledge with a lot of history and local knowledge. The scenery was fantastic with stops along the way. Never felt rushed or had to much time at each stop. Coach was clean and comfortable it did help that the weather was perfect.
