Welcome to the Wailua River's most "da kine" tour - Rainbow Kayak Tours. Paddle the majestic Wailua River, the original home of the first Hawaiians, who paddled 1500 miles from the Marquesas Islands to Kaua`i almost 1500 years ago. Hear the legends and learn about the flora and fauna of Kauai`s most sacred area. After paddling past numerous Heiaus (hallowed shrines), you will view ancient Kamokila Village. Soon you will come to the North Fork where you will paddle leisurely through the Garden Isle's most beautiful jungle river until you come to the trailhead for Secret Falls.

Enjoy a moderate hike through Kauai rainforest to an enchanting waterfall, which descends 80` into a natural pool surrounded by rocks and vegetation - made famous when it was featured in the opening scene of the popular television show, Fantasy Island. Inclement weather rarely stops this fantastic journey!

Check-in times: 7:15 am & 12:45 pm. The 4-1/2 hour trip includes lunch. Eat Hawaiian style after choosing ham, turkey, or vegetarian sandwiches plus beverage and chips.

Your expert Kauai guide can also answer many other questions about our beautiful island.

"Good Waterfall"

This was eventually a pretty good trip. we arrived to check in and there was no-one there. So we waited and someone finally turned up. There didn't seem to be any organisation either. It seemed a b hit and miss and wondered if I had made the right choice. However once we got going it was great. it is about 2 miles Kayaking followed by a Mile hike. The hike is pretty easy. Only one part where people with dodgy bones may struggle and that is only a few metres. The kayaking was pretty relaxing as well. They even feed you. Although the only thing left was gluten free rubbish, which someone must have ordered but taken normal stuff. We are also use to groups that mingle with each other. here there was none of that. we made conversation with a few but once we stopped there was no return. So that was difficult. There were 2 girls that bumped into US a couple of times and looked at us as though it was our fault. They were both a pain the whole trip. The waterfall was great though. Well worth the trip. So apart from the company it was a good day.

"Relaxed and informative kayaking and hiking day with Celeste of Rainbow Kayak Tours!"

Wow...we had never kayaked to this extent before, and it was lovely. Another couple and we had our guide, Celeste Gage, take us up the Wailua River for about 1 1/2 hours. It was a relaxing and gorgeous time! After reached my our destination, we left the kayaks, to hike to Secret Falls. Celeste was such an informative guide, and again it was a relaxing time, learning so much about the jungle flora on our way! (Saw another company's guide just plow past us, and knew those folks missed so much!). At Secret Falls, we had plenty of time to eat our included lunch, feast on fresh pineapple, swim in the cool water, and stand under the Falls for priceless photos! Don't miss this opportunity to explore and learn so much of Kaua'i in ONE excursion! (You'll even get to see the "Walking HallaTrees"!) Susan and Scott

"Obviously we are not in the majority"

After reviewing reviews for this tour I was so excited to do it. My husband and I are very athletic and adventurous but I could have totally done without this tour and I really wouldn't recommend. Positives: Calm River Beautiful Scenery Negative: Started over an hour late and never told why we were so delayed. We were the 12:30 tour and the 1:30 tour started before us!!! (very frustrating for a couple who is very punctual) Tour guide was not friendly at all. He didn't try to talk to anyone from our group and 3 out of the 5 couples on our tour were fighting because kayaking with 2 people is a lot harder than you think (we were one of the 3) and the tour guide didnt offer to help any of us. At one point I even asked what we were doing wrong and without even glancing up from his phone he said "I was not setting the pace" then he pulled ahead to "demonstrate" how to do it which was not helpful...and he offered no follow up to see if I understood. Nothing! which was not helpful- there was another tour guide Mike that we spoke with and really wish we had him. If you do choose to do this tour - request him. You do get a lunch but I am not sure when you are supposed to tell your selections, we never told them so make sure you tell the guide what type of sandwich you want. We didnt get to see the falls due to flash flood so we just went to a state park area to have lunch - disappointment. One of the couples on the tour got lost - so we had to wait 20 minutes for our guide to go find them. Really I am just shocked at the amazing reviews. I really think it must have been our guide that made it so unpleasant and his lack of helping the frustrated kayakers because a majority of the group just seemed ready to leave. I really wish I had a better review of this tour because as I mentioned, this was what I was most looking forward to but it was by far one of the worst tours we ever paid for. End of rant! ;)

"Best kayaking/hiking adventure trip"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

We loved this tour. The river is calm, trees are beautiful, just the right amount of time on the river. Christian is an excellent guide. He shares lots of history about the ancient village and people, as well as the trees and medicinal plants we saw along the hike. He is a caring and responsible guide that does his best to ensure you will have a great experience. The hike is not easy! You should be in reasonably fit condition due to the tree branches, rocks, and deep ruts in the trail. The waterfall area is spectacular, and the sandwiches were fresh. The pineapple shared by Christian was delicious. He plays his uke on the trail to add to the Aloha spirit of the day. Thanks, Christian.

"Awesome kayak rental in Kauai "

This kayak tour was amazing, hands down best excursion of our trip so far. Our guide Christian was awesome, if we do this again or have friends do it we will honestly request Christian as a guide. He was down to earth, friendly and we felt very safe with him on the trip. When we hiked up to the waterfall, we learned about so much history of the island. The hike was beautiful, and along the way Christian would stop to point out interesting facts such as the "walking tree" or the leaves that cure muscle aches (we even got to take a leaf home!). The waterfall at the end is beautiful and well worth it. I would very much recommend this kayak rental, and all though I'm sure all the guides are fantastic, Christian really made our trip one of the bests.
