After talking with the tour counselor at Hale Koa Hotel, we decided on the Star of Honolulu for the whale watching tour with a buffet lunch. We were picked up at 10:30 a.m., next door at the Hawaiian Village by the tour bus and we were off to the boat after two other pick-ups. Our guide was Kayla and she was very helpful and informative as we headed for the dock. The Star of Honolulu is located on the dock at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. After we boarded the ship, we listened to a brief ship and safety orientation from Captain Scott. We also listened to an orientation about the whales from Elana, the marine naturalist. That was informative. When the first call of a "blow" was heard, everyone scrambled to the front and sides, on the different decks. Sure enough, we saw quite a few "blows" and got some great pictures of the backs of the whales - not just their "blows". It seemed that everyone was really satisfied about the number of sightings. We were given a buffet lunch on board and most was good, though I wasn't a fan of the beef, as it seemed a bit too tough. On the way back to the dock, there were also ukulele lessons, lei making lessons and even hula lessons for the brave. With the whale sightings, it made for a really great trip.

I booked our Premium Package( top deck - no kids) Sunset cruise via our resort and they were advised that it was going to be a surprise proposal . Michael ( Maitre De) and his staff looked after us like royalty - not really knowing when! Eventually I was able to get Michael aside and asked him to send out the ring with desert which he did and also videoed the event which thankfully was positive!! The food - 7 courses, was excellent and Micheal's service was impeccable as was the rest of his team. Everybody has their own separate table with good space between each one . All in all a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend it ( Premium Package) My only small criticism is there was no Savignon Blanc on board so if you are a Sav Blanc drinker be prepare to drink Chardonnay for the night !! Thankyou Michael for making this a memorable night John Sanders Australia

Beautiful sunset, gorgeous coastline and Diamond Head Views while gliding through glassy waters off Waikiki. Attentive wait staff and prompt service by Raylene, our server for the evening. Over 2.5 hours of entertainment by talented musicians and singers, amazing hula performances by a troupe of expert Polynesian dancers whose friendly interaction with guests was a delight. A wonderful and memorable experience not to be missed!

Went on the whale watching cruise today and had a great time. We saw numerous whales and had a great lunch on board the ship. Elena and Kayla took great care of everyone, and made a great cruise much better.

I'm not a fan of large tours which I had told our concierge but unfortunately recommended this anyway. The whales were neat but the boat must stay far away so kind of hard to see. The boat is old and needs remodeling. The crew did a nice job of entertaining during the time when they were no whales. We were promised a gluten free meal which ended up being rice, sweet potato and fruit. Their gluten free menu stated the salad was gluten free but quite obviously not (with croutons on top). The food was not gourmet by any means.
