Description

from Capt. Andy's Southern Star Napali Snorkel BBQ Sail
This Southern Star sailing adventure gets an early departure from Port Allen on the West shore of Kauai. As we head towards Na Pali you’ll see views of Niihau, Polihale and the ridges of Kokee. The morning departure generally means we have calmer conditions and virtually ensures an encounter with the massive pod of Hawaiian Spinner dolphins that cruise up the coast daily.

Generally, we take a nearshore route up the entire coast then sail downwind offshore so you get a variety of views. On Na Pali, you’ll see spectacular sea cliffs, numerous waterfalls, and lava tubes. Kauai is the oldest of the main Hawaiian islands, and this carved coastline is the result of nearly 8 million years of exposure to wind, waves, and rain. In addition to seagoing skills, our crew is knowledgeable in the history and legends of the ancient civilizations that once inhabited these verdant valleys.

After a relaxing and beautiful downwind sail, we’ll pull into one or our favorite remote snorkel spots. Here, we anchor and passengers can get in the water, or simply relax. After snorkeling the crew prepares a delicious lunch in our onboard kitchen, which we serve with beer and wine (only available after snorkeling). Lastly, we’ll cruise home to Port Allen.

Attire and Facilities: Our passengers enjoy large shaded cabin areas, comfortable cushioned seating, clean restrooms, and fresh water showers. Wear your swimsuits and bring a towel and sunscreen.

Snorkeling, Weather, and Destinations: Snorkel gear and instruction provided. Na Pali Coast and snorkeling are conditions permitting. Tour destination will be determined based on passenger comfort and safety.

Menu:
Continental Breakfast: Assorted pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee.

BBQ Lunch: Your choice of burger, chicken burger or vegetarian burger. Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Fresh Baked Cookies for dessert. Beer and wine available after snorkeling.

No Children under the age of 3 and women over 26 weeks pregnant allowed.

Our family had the greatest time on the four hour rafting trip. Captain Ted and Makana were the best. Very helpful to all on board and made sure everyone was comfortable and having a great time. Snorkeling was great. Saw turtles, dolphins and even got lucky enough to see a whale. They even spent more time with us to let us try to catch better glimpses of the whales. We did not get to see the Napili coast since the conditions were bad there but the route we went was beautiful as well. Would definitely take another tour with them.

My wife and I took the Na Pali Coast tour with Captain Aaron and Robert on Monday November 13th. Overall, the trip was outstanding. Their relaxed attitude set the tone for the trip, while still making it clear that safety was a priority. Their introduction was thorough and set clear expectations for the trip. I'm sure Aaron has given the same speech/jokes hundreds of times, but his knowledge of the history of Hawai'i in general, and Kaua'i specifically, kept me engaged the whole time. Being able to see dolphins and sea turtles was an added bonus. I am merely an amateur boat driver, but Aaron's ability to back-up into sea caves and keep the boat steady while navigating fairly large waves was very impressive. Aaron and Robert both displayed the ability to drive the boat and made everyone feel comfortable. I would recommend Captain Andy's to anyone visiting Kaua'i.

It’s an early start to the day and if your lucky like we were to have relatively calm seas you’ll see amazing things. We started with a snorkel stop where we saw sea turtles and tons of beautiful fish. En route to Na Pali we saw dolphins and whales. The coast itself. Amazing. The crew was great. Food on board was better than anticipated. I wouldn’t recommend for small kids. It’s not a smooth relaxing ride. There was one small child on the boat and she sat in the corner the whole ride. If you are prone to sea sickness take something- even if you’ve never been sick before. Better safe than barfing off the back of the boat. Which we saw at least 2 people doing.

Captain Andy's Na' Pali Dinner Sunset Sail is a thrilling and most-memorable experience! As the 65' Star-class catamaran sails along, you are treated to sweeping views of gorgeous beaches and towering cliffs. If you love thrilling rides and don't mind getting wet, grab a spot at the front of the bow. It's quite a rush to feel the wind and salt spray as the catamaran bounces across waves. If you prefer a more gentle ride, there is plenty of space at the stern. Of course, the views of the shore as well as any passing pods of spinner dolphins are great from any part of the boat. As the boat reaches the Na' Pali Coast, the captain will cut the engine and the crew hoists the sails. This time of silent-running is perfect for making sure you have plenty of snapshots of Kauai's magnificent Kalalau Valley. By the way... Crew members are always available and most willing to snap photos for you. After the photos have been snapped, the captain turns the catamaran and begins heading back. This is when dinner is served. Don't want to lose your spot at the bow? No worries. Crew members are delighted to bring your food. Both types of salads are fresh and very tasty. Throughout the first half of the cruise, the chef was preparing the grilled shrimp and filet mignon entree. Both were shear taste perfection. The steak was prepared perfectly and was so tender that it melted in my mouth. This delightful meal is then topped off with Key Lime Surprise cheesecake for dessert. Beverages available included mai tais, sneaky tikis, wine, beer, sodas, water and coffee. As sunset approaches, the captain once again cuts the engine. This is perhaps the most memorable part of the cruise. Watching the sun sink below the horizon after such an amazing meal is the perfect way to end the day. Life doesn't get much better than this.

We booked the Na Pali Snorkel BBQ Sail on Captain Andy's 65' Southern Star catamaran and had a great time. The captain and crew were engaging, friendly and informative during our six hour cruise. The sights along Kauai's Na Pali coast were nothing short of spectacular! We saw pods of spinner dolphins, sea turtles and flying fish. We had a very good BBQ lunch and any beverages we desired on our return run. We snorkeled for over an hour near Polihale State Park Beach. I would highly recommend Captain Andy's cruises.
