"Best thing we did in Maui!"

Riding a horse along the ocean was always on my bucket list. I am glad I chose the Mandes Ranch. The employees at the ranch were very friendly and helpful. The views that we saw on our ride were the best that we saw on our trip.

We arrived early from Kaanapali & were greeted warmly. We're treated to mix of animals from chickens, peacocks, goats & sheep. They saddled up horses & I had Big Mac. They headed us down to large viewing area of cliffs & ocean. Guide took all the pictures with our own cameras. Didn't try & sell extras. Entire route was well over 2 hours. Gave everyone chance to gallop or go slow. Took care of horses giving them chance to rest & eat. Morning ride was hot but well worth it. Even had cold refreshments before & after ride. Will do again, but hips ache from such a large horse. If staying on west coast recommend taking the longer route back. Road even narrower than Hana in spots, but views are worth it. Took 1 hour & 20 minutes to get back to Westin.

We thoroughly enjoyed the morning ride at Mendes Ranch, as the scenery was beautiful and the staff was very accommodating. Our guides, Kat and Steve, were very friendly and helpful. My girlfriend has no riding experience, and they were extremely patient with her. In addition, I commend the ranch for allowing time to take photos on the ride. These planned stops are great, and we were thrilled that it wasn't the usual "hurry up and take a couple quick shots so we can upsell you crappy photos". Mendes Ranch, please never change this great feature of your rides, as it is a huge asset! In addition, the couple runs we had were fun. Letting the horses loose for a bit was a blast, and the more experienced riders will enjoy it. Overall, a great experience that we would gladly repeat.

I had the best time riding at Mendes Ranch this past weekend. I was so impressed by the whole experience: wonderful horses that got along with each other and had great temperaments, fantastic guides, beautiful scenery, and the chance to gallop (twice!). I was on a ride with cowboy Butch and 5 other women. I have great memories of Butch telling us stories about the ranch and things he's seen on the property. He took time to ride next to each one of us and talk to us individually so we'd be comfortable and all the while he was so unbelievably relaxed, but completely in control the whole time. He was fantastic. He also did a great job of taking photos of each and every one of us. For those of us that need options when picking the best photos, he took them from every angle!! The views were unreal but of course I knew they would be given the location of the property. Absolute beauty there. What was so memorable to me was the ability for us to run the horses. I haven't been on a trail ride in a very long time that allows guests to go faster than a walk. It was so much fun, I'll really never ever forget the wonderful feeling I had as my horse was racing up the trails with the others. Memories I'll never forget!! Something touching I noticed at the end of the ride was when we all dismounted, Butch encouraged us to pet our horse and say goodbye because "the horses like it." I thought that was really cool. So many ranches just want to get you out of there after the ride is over, but at Mendes Ranch nobody is in a rush, and I could really feel the personal touch there. I really cannot wait to come back and bring my family and friends here. If you are a horse lover, it is an attraction that cannot be skipped! As for Kama'aina, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a nice, enjoyable horseback ride sometime. They really appreciate the locals coming out. Thank you, Mendes Ranch, for a wonderful afternoon.

We really enjoyed our afternoon trail ride. The ranch is beautiful and the horses are well trained (mine was Smoke). I appreciated having our pictures taken, a chance to lope and the free beverages before/after the ride. The only negative feedback I'd give is, maybe be a little more prepared since the ride didn't start for about 45 min to an hour later. It was kinda awkward standing around for that long. Overall, we had a great time and would do it again!
