from Kayak Adventures of Wailua River - Kauai
Since 1996, Kayak Adventures has been offering a 3 in 1 quality tour. Your tour includes:
  • Kayaking on the Wailua River

  • Hiking through a lush rainforest

  • A chance to get up close to a secluded 125 foot waterfall.

We are family owned and operated.

Our Tour Guides: Daniel Havas, has been working with the company for 10 years and Aaron Lamson for 3 years. Sam Mitzel started in May 2007 and is our official photographer and also a tour guide. All are CPR and First Aid certified.

On our tour, we paddle 2 miles up-river. If you are thinking of river kayaking – Wailua is class 0! No current, no whitewater. This river is very calm and serene. We paddle pass a Hawaiian Village that was used in the movie Outbreak, starring Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. When we reach the trailhead, we bank our kayaks where portions of 6 Days 7 Nights with Harrison Ford and Anne Heche was filmed. We will also show you where scenes from Raider’s of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park were filmed. We hike 3/4 of a mile through beautiful rainforest. Along our hike, we will tell you of the various flora and fauna as well as the history of the ancient Hawaiians who once live in the Wailua River Valley. Once we reach the 125 foot waterfall Uluwehi, which means Secret Falls, we will swim and take pictures and provide you with a complete deli lunch. After we are finished enjoying the waterfall, we hike back through the rainforest to the kayaks and paddle back down river.

Tour Details:
  • This is a 4.5-5 hour tour offered 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday

  • Check-In times are 7:15 & 12:45pm

  • Tour includes your deli lunch with bottled water

  • Dry bags for cameras and towels included

  • We recommend you wear sunscreen, bathing suit, and wet shoes comfortable for hiking

Christian was a fabulous leader who kept us well entertained with his local knowledge. The kayaking was a lot of fun and the walk wasn't too strenuous, although you need to be careful of roots. I was a solo traveller but Christian ensured that no one was left out.

Had a great time. Took some getting used to as a first time duo kayaker but by the end had a blast and saw some great scenery. Our guide Davey was great. Thanks so much!

This is one of the absolute best trips we have been on. The rain forest parallels those of Belize and Costa Rica - lush, unspoiled, stunning. The combination of the kayak, hike, then swimming under a gorgeous 125 foot waterfall is perfect. Our guide, Thomas, was attentive, interesting, and made the trip even more fun. The lunch was a lovely presentation of fresh fruit and banana bread, along with the sandwiches, on large jungle leaves. HIGHLY recommend this trip and we will definitely do it again!!

We had a great time on our kayak adventure today. Davey did a great job. He taught us a lot about the trees and animals we saw and about the Hawaiian islands. We were supplied with plenty of snacks and cold water - and the sandwiches and fresh pineapple for lunch. The hike was a little rough --but fun, and beautiful. The Secret Waterful was great! It was refreshingly cool -- and so amazing to be able to actually go beneath the falls! (Great photos also). And -- they don't try to sell you anything extra! I like that. It was a great day and a real hawaiian experience. Thanks Davey and Kayak Adventures!

"Great kayak tour. Safe, very informative, Christian is a great guide."

We did the two mile kayak into the interior. The river is mellow and Christian kept us safe but at our own pace. He took us on the hike to the 125 foot falls and taught us about the plants and history along the way. We got a lesson on historic Hawaiian culture and its depth. The hike in is rooted so be careful and Teva sandals or five fingers work well. If you are at all unsure, wear tie shoes. Our hike was pretty dry but if mud is predicted, wear the right shoes. You will get a bit wet. I highly recommend going into the falls - great fun, not scary, and the water feels great.
