from Kayak Adventures of Wailua River - Kauai
Since 1996, Kayak Adventures has been offering a 3 in 1 quality tour. Your tour includes:
  • Kayaking on the Wailua River

  • Hiking through a lush rainforest

  • A chance to get up close to a secluded 125 foot waterfall.

We are family owned and operated.

Our Tour Guides: Daniel Havas, has been working with the company for 10 years and Aaron Lamson for 3 years. Sam Mitzel started in May 2007 and is our official photographer and also a tour guide. All are CPR and First Aid certified.

On our tour, we paddle 2 miles up-river. If you are thinking of river kayaking – Wailua is class 0! No current, no whitewater. This river is very calm and serene. We paddle pass a Hawaiian Village that was used in the movie Outbreak, starring Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. When we reach the trailhead, we bank our kayaks where portions of 6 Days 7 Nights with Harrison Ford and Anne Heche was filmed. We will also show you where scenes from Raider’s of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park were filmed. We hike 3/4 of a mile through beautiful rainforest. Along our hike, we will tell you of the various flora and fauna as well as the history of the ancient Hawaiians who once live in the Wailua River Valley. Once we reach the 125 foot waterfall Uluwehi, which means Secret Falls, we will swim and take pictures and provide you with a complete deli lunch. After we are finished enjoying the waterfall, we hike back through the rainforest to the kayaks and paddle back down river.

Tour Details:
  • This is a 4.5-5 hour tour offered 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday

  • Check-In times are 7:15 & 12:45pm

  • Tour includes your deli lunch with bottled water

  • Dry bags for cameras and towels included

  • We recommend you wear sunscreen, bathing suit, and wet shoes comfortable for hiking

My husband and I had a great time on this excursion. The hike was not easy for us being a bit older but we both were able to do it. Be prepared for lots of mud and some rough terrain. The kayaking was very peaceful. It was our first time and once we established a good rhythm with the oars it went fine. Our guide Thomas was a very interesting guy and his conversation made the trip go fast. Scenery was gorgeous. The waterfall was so beautiful, water was so cool. Lunch was set out beautifully. I would do this trip again.

It was a great kayaking trip, though muddy. Loved how cautious our guide was with our safety and going out. His lunch was amazing.

Wow! Such an amazing experience! Our guide, Christian, was so knowledgeable, entertaining and fun! His knowledge about the the land was incredible. From the types of trees around us to the ancient structures that we hiked through. My husband and I love history so it definitely made the trip! He also played his ukulele which brought so much joy to everyone! Thank you Christian!

We went to Kauai a month after my husband's birthday, so the tickets were his birthday gift. It was a great experience for both of us, and we even convinced my cousin to come along! Christian was our guide, and he was wonderful. The group was pretty diverse in age and ability (my husband and I do half marathons and are in our late 20s, there was a family with kids, and other couples who didn't seem to hike very often) and Christian did a good job keeping track of the whole group. The kayak trip was amazing, and Christian kept us entertained on the walk with Hawaiian history and songs from his eukoleili. The hike was on the easy side, just be prepared that there isn't much of a path at certain points and it can be wet. But the view and experience is so worth it!

My group and I had a great time on this kayak tour with Thomas! I was impressed with Thomas from the start as he was able to remember each tour member's name after only a brief meeting with each. Thomas was very knowledgable able the area and river and provided as much information as we wanted. As well, Thomas was not in a hurry so we were able to enjoy as much of the river and hike as we wanted without feeling the pressure to return. This is an activity I would definitely recommend!
