from Hidden Oahu Tour
This helicopter tour begins with a beautiful view of placid Keehi Lagoon and continues over historic Honolulu Harbor. Here you will see Aloha Tower, once the tallest structure on the island, as well cruise ships from distant ports. Next is downtown Honolulu, featuring the only royal palace in the country. Above the city stands Punchbowl, the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The tour continues above Ala Moana Beach Park, Magic Island, the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and Waikiki Beach. Beyond, you’ll see Diamond Head crater from a dramatic perspective, the “Gold Coast” where millionaires make their homes, and spectacular Hanauma Bay.

Rounding the east end of the island, you’ll see the rugged coastline, inviting Sandy Beach and Makapuu Point and lighthouse. Your aerial tour continues over Sea Life Park, the estate where TV’s Magnum P.I. was filmed.

Your flight continues on above the powdery white sands of Waimanalo Beach, the gorgeous coral formations of Kaneohe Bay, distinctive Chinaman’s Hat, and then up into “Jurassic Park” valley, where scenes from a dozen major motion pictures have been filmed. The highlight of the tour is Sacred Falls, a sheer and splendid 1,000-foot cascade.

The tour continues along the storied North Shore, with a dramatic view of world-renowned surfing spots including Sunset Beach, Pipeline, and Waimea Bay. On your way over Oahu’s Central Plain, you’ll see the Dole Pineapple maze and the “birthing stones” of Hawaiian royalty. Your tour concludes with a dramatic view of Pearl Harbor, the Arizona Memorial, and the Battleship Missouri.

"4yr old son"

I took my 4yr old son in the jump seat (between pilot and myself). I think he was a little short, but since he is 4yrs old he doesn’t need much. The view and tour was spectacular and so was the service. We were pretty early but they were very accommodating since normally i look at bad reviews and decide, so i knew i shouldn’t be late. Everything was on point. I fly pretty regularly in a helicopter for work, but it was nice to get the perspective and orientation from the air 😁

"Ok. Pilot Jim rude in sexual overtones comments"

Flight was ok. Could have been better if pilot JIM had refrained from sexual comments during tour. Offensive to women on board. Could choose a different company next time.

Our pilot was Evan, and he was awesome!Great pilot to begin with, and an even better tour guide. He was very friendly, funny, and informative. He made sure he gave both sides of the helicopter the chance to take amazing pictures! Absolutely recommend!

The Hidden O’ahu Tour from Makani Kai Helicopters was outstanding! Our Pilot and Guide, Evan, was wonderful! He was knowledgeable of the island and offered many additional tidbits you would not get from just reading a tour book; he was also pretty funny. Definitely a great experience I would do again!

"Hold On Tight! Breathtaking!"

First experience on a helicopter and my son (13yrs) and I chose the doors off adventure around Oahu. We were so scared--but determined to do this! Seated up front next to Pilot Jim, I knew within minutes we would be okay! Jim's command of the "chopper", knowledge of the island, incredibly calming demeanor, and sense of humor was excellent. The aerial views of this beautiful island were spectacular. Could not have asked for a better first ride! I say first ride, because my son and I looked at each other once back on the ground and said "let's do it again"! Definitely 50 minutes, definitely doors off, and definitely front row! Thank you Makani Kia Helicopters!

Frequently Asked Questions about Hidden Oahu Tour

Will I see the volcano?
The volcanoes that comprise the island of Oahu have not erupted in several hundred thousand years. Hawaii’s active volcano, Kilauea, is located on the Big Island, which is about 250 miles from Oahu.

Will I see waterfalls?
If there has been an abundance of rainfall, you’ll see many waterfalls during your tour. Naturally, waterfalls tend to be scarce if there has been no rain.

Will I see Pearl Harbor?
Yes. Each of our tours includes a marvelous pass over Pearl Harbor, where you’ll see the Arizona Memorial and the Battleship Missouri.

How many people can fit in the helicopter?
The A-Star carries six passengers plus the pilot. For the comfort of all passengers, Open Seating passengers weighing in excess of 250 pounds may be charged an additional fee equal to one-half the cost of one seat. Open Seating passengers weighing more than 300 pounds will be charged for an additional seat. Any two Open Seating passengers from the same reservation whose combined weight exceeds 430 pounds may be required to purchase a comfort seat. An individual First Class passenger’s weight must not exceed 180 pounds; the combined weight of two First Class passengers must not exceed 345 pounds.

Can I be guaranteed a front seat?
Practically everyone wants to sit up front where you will get arguably the best view. The front seats are considered “First Class” and are available for a slight additional charge. The combined weight for both parties seated up front cannot exceed 360 pounds.

Is there a discount for kids?
The FAA requires that every passenger over 24 months occupy his or her own seat. However, children younger than that can ride on their parents’ lap for free.

Can I take pictures?
Yes, we encourage you to take pictures and/or video. Bring extra film.

Do you provide a video?
Yes. The A-Star is equipped with a live camera DVD recording system that records each flight. The video also records your pilot’s narration, your own comments and questions and gentle Hawaiian music in the background. You may purchase a DVD of your actual flight following your tour.

What happens if it’s cloudy?
As a rule, we don’t fly if the weather is inclement. After all, we want you to enjoy your tour. We encourage you to book your tour early in your stay so that you have the flexibility to fly another day if the weather is poor.

Am I going to get sick?
The A-Star is an extremely stable aircraft and is used worldwide for air tours. Your tour will be a comfortable experience as we follow the Tour Operator’s Program of Safety flight guidelines which call for limited pitch and bank angles.

Is it safe to fly in a helicopter?
Absolutely. Makani Kai Helicopters enjoys a spotless safety record. We use modern equipment, employ the finest and most experienced pilots, have a highly dedicated and trained support staff and are proud members of T.O.P.S., the Tour Operator’s Program of Safety.
