"Maui Hana Sky-Trek Half-Day Tour"
July, 2016
This was our first trip to Hawaii and our first ride on a helicopter. My husband and I brought our 14-year-old and 12-year-old boys, and the trip was perfect from start to finish. The helicopter ride was probably the biggest hit, but we had a very enthusiastic driver for the second leg of the tour who pointed out local plants, led us into small caves, took our family photos, and even found a waterfall for our boys to jump off after we told her it was something they really wanted to try -- even the couple with us that we had just met were yelling in excitement when they jumped. Truly memorable experience that we'll cherish forever.

"Hana Sky Trek was a great way to do the Road to Hana"

We did the Hana Sky Trek opting for the morning ride to Hana and the helicopter ride back to the helipad. Gary was our guide on the drive to Hana and provided a lot of information along the way pointing out everything from island history to tree species. The drive included several stops for photo ops, banana bread and a dip at a waterfall. After making it to Hana we were served lunch along the shores of a black sand beach. After lunch and making one last stop at the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park we headed to the Hana airport (a charming little thing that is just what you'd expect it to look like in this remote location). Once at the airport it was only a couple of minutes until the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter that would be our ride out landed dropping off the next group that Gary would be taking from Hana on the drive out. The helicopter ride, while short, was great and provided a chance to see plenty of waterfalls and valleys that you would not be able to see otherwise and that I imagine may never have been visited by foot. We were able to take some pretty neat photos. After seeing the road to Hana from the passenger seat of this luxury van I now know that yes, you can drive the road to Hana on your own and you would have more time at each stop, but honestly I'm not sure I would want the same 3 hour drive back which is why the sky trek tour was worth every penny My advice for those thinking of doing the sky trek is to take the morning drive, you'll do the drive first and the helicopter flight will have you back shortly after lunch giving you nearly the entire day to do other activities. Suggestions for Temptations would be to include a stop at the Hana General store, we drove past but did not stop at this store and a couple of shops that looked like they would have been a great spot to shop for something from Hana. Only 2 of the 5 people in our van took a short dip at the waterfall and the stops along the road were pretty quick, Gary kept us on a tight schedule and we didn't linger so I don't think it was that we took too much time elsewhere. We will come to Maui again, it is unlikely that we will take another drive to Hana so we can't help but to feel like we may have missed a keepsake from one of the shops.

"Hana Sky-Trek What a fantastic experience."

There was an issue of weight regarding the helicopter balance. Temptation Tours reached out to me via all methods of communication days before the flight. The issue was resolved and were we confirmed. Nice communication on their part. In our party of 4 two were uncomfortable with heights. Both were experienced plane travelers so trusted the science. The pilot was good at making sure protocols were understood and double checking passengers were secure. Dylan the pilot explained the geology, history and culture as we went from sea level to 10,000 feet in a short time. We flew over the crater, along beaches, into valleys. It was great. A driver with a wonderfully comfortable limo bus picked us up at the Hana airport. A nice six seater with seating like airline first class. He laid out a sumptuous lunch at the harbor with a tasty lunch. We proceeded back over the mountains through 6oo turns and 55 one lane bridges. This is definitely a road to be driven on as it is a tedious drive (having done it round trip in the past.). If I were driving I would have missed some beautiful scenery. People have told me for years that if I was able to see Hawaii from the air. They were absolutely right.
